Session 19: Miserable Camping Report

General Summary

Terrible rest, get a fire going but everything else is damp and miserable. Ceonwulf makes soporific drinks, Theia and Gwen gather herbs. Jakuki plays a surprisingly good song for Ongar and Ceonwulf. Rest comes, animals shuffling around nearby but the fire keeps the group safe. Roderick and Jakuki don't get much sleep. In the predawn light, Ongar is staring into the fire as Roddy pays more attention, and hears an unsubtle group approaching. He wakes the others, who stand ready as a group of gnolls escorting three prisoners.
Jakuki rushes the group, Ceonwulf follows. Roderick flanks to the south, and Theia throws a light-enchanted torch from her raised platform for Ongar so he can see the approaching band. Gwen nestles into an elevated firing position.
The gnolls rush the dwarven duo, bouncing off the magical shield of Jakuki and forcing many of them to focus on the less protected Ceonwulf. The paladin takes hit after hit as Theia blesses him, Ongar and Roddie and the tortle shuffles up behind the front line. Roderick engages a lone gnoll on the sideline as Ceonwulf throws his newly-acquired lightning spear, skewering a gnoll underling to the rear and causing the others to duck out of the way. Ongar and Jakuki add their own magical salvos to the attacks, injuring or killing their assailants directly in front. Gwen and Theia take hits from arrows from distant hunters, and Gwen retaliates by slaying one of their kind.
One gnoll moves to take a prisoner as a human shield.
