Session 38: Mayfield the Patron Report

General Summary

2K, Jakuki and Ceonwulf join a game of 3 Dragon Ante, a game which 2K cheats at and then threatens the dwarven players, then the barman. The latter, clearly shaken, demands the group leave his establishment immediately. After a bit of negotiation and unruffling of his feathers, the majority of the group depart and leave Roddie and Theia in place in case Thornbank arrives.   The dragon-made-man Thornbank arrives, finding himself before the ejected members of the Company. After enquiring as to why they were out here, he offers to patch things up with the bartender and asks to be referred to as Mayfield as they enter. After negotiating with the barman - clearly an acquaintance or possibly even an employee, he gives his word that no more trouble will be had. He threatens 2K quite convincingly that a lot of harm will befall him if his word is broken. With that settled, the assembled team arrange themselves around the bar table again and the tale of Zeke, Bendil Village, Berleben and Arinoth is recounted.   The plan to resettle the villagers in the Menagerie Coast is explained and the trouble with getting them there. Thornbank tells them to contact Tomas Alleyne, a half-elf "mover and shaker" in Nicodranas. Perhaps ask around the tavern the Lavish Chateau to find him. If he's not there, he'll probably find the group. "Mayfield" pays the party 50PP each and an additional sum of 2,000 gold to safeguard the future of the caravan.   Theia broaches the subject to both the Company and to Thornbank around perhaps establishing a patronage deal, whereby he could call upon them to undertake contracts and in return they could contact him and gain his support in their endeavours. After a bit of negotiation, clarification and collective agreement, Thornbank agrees to the arrangement in principle. Sendings can be used to keep in contact.   Ceonwulf asks Thornbank if he knows anything about an artifact of Pelor to the South in or around Cyrengreen Forest, and after a moment of thought admits that he had heard rumour of the rise of the "First Light" of late. Theia recognises this reference as an artifact, an item of some kind, and Thornbank elaborates further. As an artifact of Pelor and one of the Vestiges of Divergence,@Vesti it is a creation of incredible power and an omen of dark times to come, should the gods be looking to steel their champions against some threat. Thornbank, as with Kad, encourages the Company to leave the caravan behind further south and venture into Cyrengreen in search of it. With that, and their business concluded, Thornbank departs.
