Sect of the Dog
The "Sect of the Dogs" is a very old religion that can trace itself back to the first emergence of the Purus society about 13,000 years ago. The Dog has always had the highest place within the deities of the Purus people and is the central visualisation of their god and protector. The Dog has gained this position through its longstanding behaviours to the protection of the people of Purus especially from the many local wild animals in the area.
The Dog is considered a sacred animal and is allowed to roam wherever it wants. It is however usually looked after by individual families and treated as a living god within the family. They are fed and groomed and overall live a very privileged life. Statues of Dogs are the most common statues seen within the country of Purus, with many adorning religious buildings, Town Squares, private homes and other important buildings.
The sect has a 2 tier structure which has a High Sect and a Lower Sect. The High Sect is followed on religious days when set religious festivals occur. These High Sect Religious ceremonies can last 3 hours and are full of prompt and ceremony. These are often performed in the presence of noble families and or government officials. The Lower Sect is used on normal days and in most local temples. The religious ceremony is often short and follows a few set behaviours depending on what is being the focus of the ceremony.
The basic philosophy behind the Sect is that if we look after the dog the dog will look after us. We must thank the Dog God continuously as the security of the nation and the family is dependant upon their protection. They also believe that if you live a good life you can come back as a dog and then you can look after your family as a Dog God.
