Ian Rapton

Ian Rapton, the steward of Lord Daniel Harling, is a study in contrasts. Despite his intelligence and capability, his intellect is often overshadowed by his overwhelming cowardice and superstition. His days are spent in the shadow of Lady Cordelia Harling, where he assists in the day-to-day administration of the barony, finding solace in her steadiness and competence.   Easily frightened and highly superstitious, Ian's timidity often undermines his effectiveness as a leader. He shies away from risk, always opting for the safe path, even if it means enduring a slower and more arduous journey. His fear of the unknown, particularly the ocean, colors his every decision, manifesting in a deep-seated aversion to boats, ships, and even fish.   Despite his shortcomings, Ian's loyalty to the Harlings knows no bounds, particularly to Lady Cordelia, whom he regards with the utmost respect and admiration. His dedication to his duties is unwavering, even in the face of his own fears and insecurities.   Ian's education and erudition are apparent in his well-read demeanor and impeccable penmanship. He is a man of letters, more at home with books and documents than with the uncertainties of the outside world. Yet beneath his timid exterior lies a keen intellect and a deep well of knowledge, waiting to be tapped when circumstances demand it.
"Superstitions? Well, you see, it's best not to tempt fate. One can never be too cautious in these uncertain times."
