The Ocean City of Cassidor
Stood deep in the ocean off the eastern coast of what was once America stands the huge man-made island city of Cassidor, home to over five million people. The island reaches 300 meters out of the water and is around 150 meters wide, supported by modified SPAR rigging the structure often stands at the center of a huge variety of ships, both used for trade, defense and to support the growing number of inhabitants.
The city is separated into multiple sectors, each defined by a specific purpose. With the cities growth most sectors now also incorporate some form of housing. The center of the city holds the green sector, an area that holds the majority of the cities crops, food projection, plants and several public and private gardens, with the expansion of the city many of these public gardens have been overtaken by housing with the entire south of the sector now holding a large shanty town. Besides the gardens the majority of the green sector is heavily guarded and sealed off to avoid contaminants and thievery, those who work in the green sector are often quite rich, not only due to the large credit allowance permitted to them but many take unaccounted for stock and trade it with other sectors illegally.
The Industrial sector is the largest by a considerable margin, taking the upper quarter of the entire island, this is largely due to the trade network that Cassidor has set up, trading electronic and manufactured goods in bulk to other countries in exchange for shipments of food, resources and medical aid. Above the industrial sector stands the Crown, the roof over Cassidor that originally stood untouched, ocean winds and billowing smoke from below making it a difficult place to stay. With the constant expansion of the city however many of those working in the Industrial sector have inhabited the Crown and with their influence and access to resources it now stands as one of the nicest places to live, huge chimneys take the smoke above the houses while small gardens and crop plots allow many of the inhabitants to make a living on the side.
The residential sector, built around the green sector, is the heart of Cassidian society, holding over 2 million people the large halls and economic centers gives the city a well needed reprieve. This place, if anything, has only benefited from the growth of the city, societies and cultures intermingling, streets being filled with markets by day and parties at night. The halls are almost always filled with crowds and merchants from across the globe can make a fortune. Surrounding the residential sector are the storage and military sectors. The storage sector contains all government owned resources, including rations, and as such is heavily monitored. Only those with the correct bio-metric signs can enter. The military sector acts as a base for both the protection of Cassidor and as the headquaters for the police force. Besides the main gate the military sector is the only other entrance out into the Fringe.
The fringe encompasses the lip of land around the outside of Cassidor, its one of the only areas construction isn't permitted and mainly acts as agathering place for those waiting to enter the city proper. To overcome this building issue with the amount of people now residing in the city much of the outside is now inhabited in an area known as the Scaffold, this area is built around much of Cassidor. The scaffold is mainly inhabited by the poor and destitute, storms or heavy winds may detach whole portions of the Scaffold and its inhabitants are something commonly argued over by the politicians and citizens alike.
For those too poor to even survive within the Scaffold and hidden away from much of the world above is the Pit, those living within the SPAR pillar itself. Down here leaks are common, little construction is possible and only a few sealed doors hold back the ocean itself. While officially the Cassidian government denies the existence of the Pit rations have been known to fall into their grasp should repairs be done to the underside of the island.
