Kadesh: City of Jewels - Season 1 Ep. 7 Session 7

General Summary

Neither Aeolus, Arsenius, or Eirkoris knew of someone who went by the moniker of Mr. D.. Obviously he was someone who had been watching them. However, theories would have to wait till they felt like they weren't being watched. Wanting a safe place to rest, as well as follow up with Kevalan on what he wanted them to do for him, the trio made their way back to the Slutty Ducky.   After returning and finding Kevalan, he told them of a rare book he had heard about being in Kadesh. This book, which was apparently only copy, he had heard about from various circles he was apart of. The location, he had gathered, was either being held in Atheist's Arch, at the Chapel of the Atheist there, or in Wizard's Ward, at the College of Arcanum. The three adventurers decided that the best place to start would be the college of Arcanum for two reasons. The first being that Kevalan had a friend there, Archmage Elthandres Vanderval, who the characters could get help from, and the second being that one of the reasons Arsenius had come to Kadesh was to reroll in the College. Thus, after taking the night to rest, the trio set off on their next adventure.   The next morning, they made their way to the College, a massive campus to the far west of Kadesh. It was magnificent, and the trio was in awe. On their journey to the College, however, they ended up passing through Atheist's Arch. There, they came across a brutal crime seen. As Aeolus slipped through the crowd, she saw the victim, a young man, with a Symbol burned into his crest.
After inquiring about the killing with some locals, they found out that these kinds of killings had been going on for decades, and that no one really knows who or what is doing it. The trio found two different theories, either it was a sadistic cult of some sort, or a serial killer. The trio decided that even if they found the book at the College, they should definitely come back to Atheist's Arch to check what has been going on.   Now at the College, the trio made their way inside and to the front reception. There, they met a student who was working the front desk named Becky. She informed Arsenius that to apply without proper prerequisite schooling, that he would need to have a letter of recommendation from someone of high renown in the College. She also gave them the directions to Vanderval's office. When they arrived at his office, they saw a little girl, no older than 5, waiting in front of the door. She saw them and said her name was Aria Raven-Wing. After around five minutes, a lady emerged from Vanderval's office. She looked to be another Archmage or someone important based on her attire and demeanor. She nodded her head at the trio and took Aria by the hand and led her off. After saying bye to the child, the trio went into Vadnerval's office and introduced themselves and stated they were friends of Kevalan. As they explained themselves to Vanderval, he told them that he would look into the book and give Arsenius a letter of recommendation if they did something for him. That something would be to break into another Archmage's chambers, Archmage Luthor, and steal back an amulet Vanderval had lent Luthor for an experiment that Luthor has yet to return. The party agreed and made their way to Luthor's chambers.   Once they arrived, Eirkoris and Arsenius stood guard while Aeolus picked the lock. When they got inside, they noticed Luthor's chambers was decorated with swords along the walls and a beautiful rug along the center of the room. After scouting out the room, the trio pushed back the rug to discover a secret hatch. Aeolus opened it and took out the locked box that was inside. However, as she did that, the rug animated and wrapped itself around Aeolus. At the same time, the swords flew off the walls and began to attack the three adventurers. The battle was surprisingly more difficult than the their previous fights, and, after some unfortunate luck, Arsenius and Aeolus were knock unconscious. Eirkoris, in a act of desperation, unleased a spell he had found within himself, destroying the last of the swords and the rug, but, unknowingly killing Aeolus in the process.   Luckily, Archmage Luthor along with the lady who had come out of Vanderval's office arrived at the scene of the crime. The lady cast a spell on Aeolus and told Eirkoris and Arsenius to follow her. Archmage Luthor demanded to know what was the meaning of this, but the lady stopped him and told him that all matters would be settled after Aeolus' life was saved. They made their way through the College, following this mystery lady, until they eventually got to an infirmary type room. Aeolus was placed on a table, and with the use of magic, was eventually brought back to life. During this time, the lady revealed herself to be Eliza Raven-Wing, mother of Aria and the Magus - leader - of the College of Arcanum. Taking Eirkoris and Arsenius up to her office while Aeolus rested and summoning Archmage Vanderval and Luthor, Eliza wanted to figure out what the meaning of this was. After she was given the explanation, she denied Luthor's idea to have the trio tried of robbery, and opted to just forget the whole situation. After dismissing the Archmages, she turned to Arsneius and Eirkoris and told them that they had gotten themselves into a real mess. She stated that normally they would have to pay upwards of 50,000 gold pieces for what they were doing to Aeolus, but that she would figure out what could be done about it. They thanked her and asked her about Kevalan's book. She told them that she had never heard of a tome like the one they were describing, but she did say they could go down to the library a look around for themselves if they wanted.   After their conversation with Eliza, they left her office and made their way down to Aeolus, picked her up, and decided that they had had enough of the College for one day, and decided to go check out the chapel at Atheist's Arch instead. As they made their way to leave, Vanderval stopped them and tried to apologize. Aeolus would have none of it and just continued walking, but Arsenius started to berate him. Vanderval apologized again and said that he would give Arsenius a letter of recommendation as an apology. Arsenuis told him that was a start and left.   As they began to make their way to Atheist's Arch, they reminisced about their adventures thus far and how Aeolus almost died. Suddenly, they Commander Ezelda and a group of Altranoyian guards emerged out of an alleyway up ahead and blocked their path. As they were getting ready to fight their way through, they all heard a loud boom. Eirkoris and Arsenius turned around in time to see Aeolus hit by an explosion that erupted around her. When the dust settled, all that remained in the spot Aeolus stood was ash. Eirkoris and Arsenius looked up in horror to see, behind them, stood Viceroy Vok-Nix holding a weapon, in one hand, the likes of which they had never seen before. The only descriptor would be that it was a cannon that was able to be held in your hand.   And that weapon had just killed Aeolus.
