Danger
Best known among monsters is the vampire, and they are
deadly to mankind, for they must have living, human blood to feed on.
Detection
- MIRROR - The best detection method is to check if they have a reflection, for vampires have none.
- They resemble mortals, and might be mistaken for them, except for their sharp teeth and pale-white skin. Many vampires have other non-human characteristics.
Abilities
They possess great powers, making them formidable opponents.
- They are stronger, swifter, more agile and are tougher than mortals, and have sharper senses.
- They can transform themselves into bats, or into mist.
- They can dominate the will of lesser beings, merely by meeting their gaze.
- A vampire will always rise each night exactly as they were when they died, uninjured and strong.
- Some vampires have other dark powers.
- Walker lore says that the vampire's greatest strength is that we will not believe him.
Weaknesses
In contrast to this, they also possess great weaknesses:
- They lie dead on the earth by day, and
- They are repelled by faith and by garlic.
- They must have living, human blood to exist.
- They have no strength of their own, except through the draining of human blood.
Tactics
Vampires are probably the hardest monster to destroy. Between their ability to change forms, dominate and incredible hardiness, you must make doubly sure. They are notoriously tenacious when there is blood to be had. Do
not underestimate this killer.
Destruction
According to myth, the only way to truly destroy a vampire is to drive a stake through their heart, which is the center of their power (ironically.) Some walkers have relied upon fire, or decapitation, but this is the only way to be sure.
Social
Vampires are notorious for dominating other monsters, especially their own kind, and any powerful vampire will likely have weaker ones under his control.
Curse
Like the other top three, vampires turn their victims into lesser vampires.
