House of Poitiers

Aristoctratic dynasty controling the County of Poitiers and the Duchy of Aquitaine. The Ramnulfids have done much to encourage art, literature, and piety. During the 11th and early 12th centuries Aquitaine became the centre for the art of poetry and song in the vernacular; the troubadour tradition was born and raised there. In the later 12th century the idea of courtly love expanded from Aquitaine to England and France thrugh the Ramnulfid heiress Eleanor of Aquitaine and her daughter Marie of Champagne.
