Roger of Poitou

Roger the Poitevin was an Anglo-Norman nobleman who rose to prominence during the reign of William Rufus. He lost his extensive lands in northern England and Suffolk in 1102 for supporting Robert Curthose against Henry I of England.   His nickname 'the Poitevin' is a joke. Roger was Norman, the third son of Roger of Mortimer, Earl of Shrewsbury. He gained extensive lands in Poitou with his marriage to Almodis, daughter of Count Adelmar II of La Marche.   Dates of birth and death are approximate.
