Currency of the Empire

Hard Currency

Shilling The largest denomination coin in current circulation is the shilling. It is made of silver and stamped on one side with the face of the reigning emperor, and on the reverse with the Imperial dragon symbol. The edges are ridged to prevent coin shaving. 1 Shilling = 20 Pence = 200 Farthings

Pence The most common coin in general use is the pence. It is made of bronze and stamped with a digit and the corresponding number in Lalange. There are three types of pence coins: 5 pence, 2 pence, and 1 pence. One-pence coins are commonly called "pennies," two-pence coins are "tuppence," and five-pence coins are called "quarters," because they are worth 1/4 the value of a shilling.

Farthing The coin of least value is the copper farthing. Worth only 1/10 of a pence, these coins are often badly minted and show ragged edges and less-than-careful stamping. The farthing is the only coin that local lords are allowed to mint.
