Sacrament of Arrogarsi

An Arrogate is a special officer of the Pentic Church who is called to arrogate, or take upon himself, the things that must be done that would otherwise stain the souls of the innocents. Either by absolving good people of the guilt they feel over the horrific things that have had to witness or do, or preferably by shielding them from trauma by performing such necessary but disturbing things himself, the arrogate maintains the goodness of the Adorati by accepting the guilt of necessary evils.

History

The Arrogati were first ordained in the 2nd century by Saint Roland, Paladin of the Downtrodden, but although they are a recognized and accepted part of the Venerati, they have never been ranked in the formal hierarchy of priests and often their true calling is unknown to most. They usually appear in garb and manner as traveling Bastioni, though a negative reputation can often surrounded them with the common people.

Execution

Arrogate Ordination

  1. While he kneels and washes his hands, let him say: I accept the cleansing of Sincére, to wash away my vanity so that I may serve without thought of self.
  2. As he puts on the gambeson, let him say: I accept the plea of Palateau to keep my heart pliable in compassion but resilient in will that I may remain in service despite scorn.
  3. As he puts on the surcoat, let him say: I accept the responsibility of the Church to act in accordance with the Code of Aruna and guide the Adorati.
  4. As he buckles on the messer, let him say: I accept the mandate of Roland to defeat those who would corrupt the souls of any innocent, no matter how low and overlooked.
  5. As he puts on the biretta, let him say: I accept the wisdom of Sagesse to keep me on the true path despite pain, terror, or reproach.
  6. As he don the Chain of the Arrogate, let him say: I accept the burden of Claremont to defend the innocents and shield them from the things that would damage their souls.
  7. As he stands, let him say: As was done in the days of old and in the time of the paladins, so let it be today.
