Podol Plaza

Podol Plaza is the commercial and trading hub of Phlan and is mostly known for its large bustling market that occupies the Plaza. Open most days, it is loud, colourful and packed with different races, smells and accents. Merchants tout their wares from every corner of the Moonsea alongside a colourful assortment of performers & artists. Every taste is catered for and prices vary so that someone from every background and class can find something amongst the many stalls and tents. Exotic delicacies & wines, the finest fashions in a range of cultures and weapons and armour fresh from the forge are all on display. Just off from the Plaza, there are the town’s larger shop fronts and trading houses as well as a fewer choice eatery’s and exclusive taverns that cater to them. Most of the region’s major Houses, banks and merchants will have some form of presence here to ensure they can take advantage of the latest business opportunities, especially given Phlan’s current trading boom.
The price for trading in Podol Plaza is a steep one and that price is the Merchant's Alliance. The Merchant's Alliance's members are highly concentrated in Podal Plaza, with most store owners prestigious members and even a fair few of the market traders. Any traders who are do not pay their fees or flaunt the Alliance's decrees will have suddenly find their papers are no longer in order, their merchandise seized by customs officials or even face the threat of violence to which everyone turns a blind eye.
The Black Fists keep tight control on the market and any trouble is quickly quashed, the perpetrators taken to the nearby Black Gate. The richest merchants will pay hefty bribes to ensure the militia are kept close. Nevertheless, pick-pocketing & thievery is not uncommon and the usual con men, beggars and prostitutes ply a swift trade if they can evade the law.
