The Pit

"Create a building which is feared by a culture of your world"   When it was created, the Parliament of Nations building was a shiny beacon to peace and communication. It acted as a diplomatic safe haven for all the nations of the land to discuss and work out differences, in a civil and peaceful manner. It was mostly abandoned during the reign of the Wizard Kings. However, in the first few months after the divine gate was opened again, nations from all the races were invited to work out land disputes within its halls once more.   At one year into the Race War, a summit was called and many nations and races made their way to the building to talk peace. To find a way to co-exist. The Germanic Elves were a big force in trying to get each nation to the peace talks. It was there that they laid out the manifesto of domination in all forms to set their nation first before all others. This was not well received.   The Germanic Elves then cast powerful magic forcing the land to swallow the building complex leaving just the large sun dome roof sticking up out of the ground. This entombed most of the delegates that were in the building at the time, a few lucky ones were crushed to death. The war reignited and prisoners of war have been tossed into the dome stripped of any useful tools and gear and left for dead inside.   This once great beacon of peace has now been reduced to a symbol of fear.

Purpose / Function

Currently, the Pit acts as a prison, where the Germanic Elven nation places anyone they want to "forget".    When you are inducted into the prison, you are pushed from the top of the dome of the suns and left to free fall into the room below. It has been said that giant spiders have built webs in this dome, that these webs can help to break your fall. If your lucky enough to get tangled and not fall to your death, and you can avoid becoming a meal to the spiders. You will likely go mad or die of starvation inside.    There are no wardens inside, as nobody comes out.

Alterations

Whatever magic was cast by the Elven High mages, made the ground soft, malleable. In doing this all the buildings that made up the Parliament of Nations were sunk into the ground through the solid rock. People that were not in the buildings sunk and were encased in solid stone.    By some unknown effect of the spell, most of the buildings were able to be consumed into the ground but retain most of their form. Thus trapping the initial delegation inside the building. Magical wards of some nature keep anyone from teleporting into our out of the immediate area, and after a few bounced off the spell and into the solid stone that incases it, most stopped trying.
