The Resplendent Imperial Calendar of Faerin
The Imperial Calendar is the official calendar of the various human empires of the known world. It is used to track dates and describe events in the World of Faerin. It is currently in its fourth age.
Most people believe that Scar, the founder of the colleges of Magick, formed the Imperial Calendar. The dating system splits the 368-day year into 16 parts. 8 Full months of 40 days, and 4 short celebratory periods of 7 days centered around the Solstices & Equinoxes, and another 4 short periods of 5 days over cross-quarters between the seasons; each of which lie between the months. The months are further divided by eight-day weeks, which bridge the months uninterrupted, even if a week is broken by one of the intercalary festival periods.
The extra intercalary festival periods are Irwan (Wake), Lenzo (Spring), Regan (Rain), Sumar (Summer), Samenti (Early Harvest), Bist (Autumn), Sturm (Storms), Zoubar (Curse).
These month and festival periods in the order of occurrence
Many of these months mark the changes of the seasons, there changes in climates, and the impact of the agricultural activities that occur at those times. The festival periods mark equinoxes and solstices and changes between each of the seasons – spring, summer, autumn, and winter.
The reasons for these names are long-forgotten and probably originated in Scars indeterminate design at the beginning of the Third Age of the world. Nowadays, trade day occurs on any day of the week depending on which Human Empire you are in, and festivals and holidays take place according to the traditions of each cult. There is no weekly religious sacred day, but everyone seizes the chance to celebrate at festival times.
The issue is an accurate time telling devices are few and far between. Due to seasonal changes these periods can very a lot. The Sunrise and Sunset in the capital city of Faerin show the following seasonal variations.
While Scholarly ideal divisors are an eighth of the daily hours (3) you can see below there is a larger distinction. The Vernal Equinox is almost lined up with that goal. The day, however, wins over the night.

Overview
The Imperial Calendar is of great importance and influence in the Human Empires. It allows the common folk to count the passing days and prepare for the festivals. It allows for historical events to be recorded and contextualized in time. It allows men who have never met to agree on reliable dates that they both understand. In short, it is the cog around which the machinery of the Human Empires revolves. Without standardized, measured time, everything would soon collapse into confusion. Most people believe that Scar, the founder of the colleges of Magick, formed the Imperial Calendar. Days and Nights
The calendar day begins at Dawn each morning and finishes at the next dawn. While the day is 24 hours in length, inaccuracies in telling of time in most rural areas see it broken into 8 periods of time.- Taga “Prime” – Starting at Dawn the zero hour of the day. (06:00 Terra)
- Zunten “Midmorning” – Starting at the third hour of the day. (09:00 Terra)
- Untarn “Midday” – Starting at the sixth hour, or when the sun is at its apex. (12:00 Terra)
- Asca “Mid Afternoon” – Starting the ninth hour of the day. (15:00 Terra)
- Aband “Evening” – Starting at Dusk the twelfth hour of the day, zero hours of the night. (18:00 Terra)
- Finstar “Mid Evening” Starting the fifteenth hour of the day, the third hour of the night. (21:00 Terra)
- Naht “Night” Starting the eighteenth hour of the day, sixth hour of the night (00:00 Terra)
- Nocturn “Witching Hours” the final period of the day, starting the twenty-first hour of the day, and the ninth hour of the night. This is the most feared time of the daily cycle. Specifically at the beginning of Nocturn; many believe the veil between worlds is weakest at this point, for the sun has been gone too long.

Ages of the Known World
However, although Scar was involved with its creation, the truth of the calendar’s genesis is more complex and far older than the creater of the schools of Magic for the Human Empire.- Age 1 – Alter Tagarot (AT) - Age of the Dawning. This was the First Age, an age of primordial creation, Land and sea where created for the use of the Ancient races of the world. This is a time when the Primal Gods walked with their creations. Titans and Deities sprang up to watch over the Primal Gods creations.
- Age 2 – Alter Senten (AS) – Age of Creation. The Primal God stepped back, to deal with the rift from the chaotic realm. A realm that brought magic into the world, but with it a great unknown. The titans fought as the soldiers in this great battle, leaving the lesser deities to watch the world. Eons went by, and these deities started to create and mold the world to there liking creating the Elder races in the process.
- Age 3 – Alter Heizan (AH) – Age of Order. Scar was said to have created the known calendar at the emergence of this age. This was his gift to mankind before the great empires were little more than tribes. This age saw the old races of the world come together and form many great nations.
- Age 4 – Vig Fodaro (VF) “War of the Ancestors”. After the gods were banished from this world, and the non-humans were all but gone or pushed back to the unknown recesses of the world, the prophecies told of a group of natural spell casters that would unlock the gods and restore the world. This happened with the reemergence of all the races of old. From the Ancient forward, this created a problem. One that has torn this world asunder with more than 100 years of war. The calendar reset to accommodate so many races being moved through time, to resync all the calendars in use.
