Tournament list of Bayzeron

Purpose / Function

At almost 900 years old, the tournament lists at Bayzeron have seen their share of combat. Despite the century war, despite the age without gods, despite the rise and fall of kingdoms around it this tournament arena has housed the finest horses and most gallant warriors across all the known lands. 
Be it for pure sportsmanship, or training armies of horsemen for war, the stables at Bayzeron have been in continuous use for 895 years now.

Alterations

Initially, this was a large field that was turned into a tournament list to celebrate the peace between five human nations. At the base of La Palissade D'Argent mountain range, the cliff walls made a funnel for a natural amphitheater. At first, a few stakes in the ground and tents were all that was here. A famous painting of the champion of that first year's tournament with his monarchs behind him shows the state of the list field and state of things.
Within the next ten years, under the watchful eye of master Grardrel Kraghammer a master dwarven stone mason from Kir Darum had cut seating to make a permanent amphitheater. 
Over the next hundred years, support buildings and halls were carved into the stone cliff above the tournament list field. In its heyday, 128 tournament knights with full entourage and baggage could be housed in the halls at the tournament field level. Overhead looking down from the mountain balconies for the royal elite were cut above the heads of the common folk sitting on the stone benches. Stone pulled from the cliff face was used to create the support buildings for traveling spectators, taverns, and shops to cater to the people coming to watch the games.
Secondary event lists and combat pits also have been built, but the primary purpose of Bayzeron was to watch men fuse with a horse to act as one creature and entertain the masses of spectators these games can pull.

Architecture

Stone pulled from the cliffs of Bayzeron is the primary building material for the supporting buildings. It is also why this arena has stood so long in face of conflict that has plagued the lands of man for centuries. Hard like the knights that compete here this place was built to last.

History

Long past is the carefree days of tournament jousting, for the sake of sport. The need for trained knights to stand ready and defend the kingdom has pulled heavily during the century war. As such currently tournaments have been replaced by training matches so that the knights of the land can practice every day to hone the skills needed in real life and death combat.
However a light is on the horizon with the tentative peace from the war's end, people have started to return to the Tournament list of Bayzeron. Spectators have begun to come watching knights in armor Jousting each week on Entag a small detachment of eight different knights compete in a small tournament bracket. This was blessed by the Kingdon of Faerin's prince Edmond who wants to give people a break from the cleanup and recovery of the war.

Tourism

Limited to local residents, a few hundred people have been coming to the List fields each week. Attendance has been slowly increasing as have the spirits of the people.
