The next morning, Caddell Griffith decides to visit the War Wizards library in Marsember. Ebony Gray and Stella "The Frozen" Sheethnae head out into the wilderness to hunt. Vinos Serrat, Nimbus and FeatherFace decide to hang back around The Old Oar Inn. Mid day, just as they are all reunited, they get an unexpected call to arms. Rizfeld Halfmoon requests their help in defending Marsember from sahuagins.
After getting a full night's rest to recover, Caddell Griffith informs everyone he is skipping breakfast and headed straight to the library. He's unsure if the sealed letter will grant everyone access or just him, but asks if anyone would like to accompany him. Ebony Gray and Stella "The Frozen" Sheethnae decide to join him while the others decide to hang back.
Vinos Serrat is still soundly asleep in his bed throughout while the Caddell, Ebony, & Stella gather their things and depart for the library. Nimbus chooses to have breakfast downstairs with FeatherFace . After breakfast, they scour the markets of Marsember in search of raw materials pertaining to their crafts and other useful supplies.
Caddell Griffith is granted access to the library and begins heading inside to search for a specific spell he had always wanted to learn. Back in Waterdeep, he'd seen firsthand how a well-placed fireball spell could turn the tides of battle. Just as he's about to head up inside a sudden realization hits him and he immediately goes back to speak with Ebony and Stella. He sheepishly admits he needs a small loan to purchase the materials required to transcribe the spell he wanted and after doing some quick math in his head, had realized he was a few coins shy. They agree to loan the wizard the difference and part ways. Caddell heads back inside the library to transcribe a new spell while Stella and Ebony decide to hunt for lunch and suitable round pebbles to use in conjunction with a sling.
Stella and Ebony head out the west gate of Marsember at roughly 10 am. After a couple hours of hunting, they acquire 4 pheasants and 2 dozen spherical pebbles ideally-sized for firing from a sling Meanwhile, Nimbus has made friends with a blacksmith who's horseshoing business is across the street from the The Old Oar Inn. By his permission, she begins forging a pair of iron manacles using his anvil and forge. Vinos Serrat finally gets up out of bed and heads downstairs for wine and brunch and finds FeatherFace already downstairs drinking a pint of ale. Vinos sits down at the bar and orders his wine and food when Nimbus walks back inside the inn holding the iron manacles she had just finished making.
Curious to see if her new manacles would perform, she convinces FeatherFace to try them on. The manacles work as intended and they are unable to remove the manacles. Nimbus smiles proudly, but that smile vanishes quickly once the monk patiently holds his arms out expecting her to remove them with a key. It suddenly dawns on her that she never made a key. Vinos Serrat watches this unfold from the corner of his eye while engorging himself on his brunch of poached eggs and corn bread with a glass of red wine. He violently expels bits of food in uncontrollable laughter when he realizes along with FeatherFace that there is no key for the manacles.
Utter chaos ensues for several seconds as Nimbus frantically looks for her tools to create a key and the aarakocra monk angrily shrieking and running around the inn like a wounded chicken in panic. Vinos Serrat falls back in his chair in hysterical laughter until finally he can't laugh anymore. Once he is able to gather himself, he offers his services to the monk who eagerly holds his arms out in front of him nodding his beak vigourously. After withdrawing his lockpicking set, he easily disengages the locking mechanism on the iron manacles, freeing the grateful monk at last.
It suddenly dawns on FeatherFace that he could be out looking for Janis Crow so he explains his intentions to Nimbus and Vinos Serrat who agree to accompany him and the three of them step outside the inn to see the other party members headed back to the inn.
Just as Caddell Griffith, Stella "The Frozen" Sheethnae, and Ebony Gray manage to arrive back in front of the The Old Oar Inn, they hear someone shouting excitedly from behind and turn to see a young man from the Purple Dragon Army running at them with a rolled parchment held high in his hand. The man attempts to speak but is too out of breath to speak coherently. Stella "The Frozen" Sheethnae takes the offered document which is sealed with Rizfeld Halfmoon signet and opens it up. Once rolled open, she reads the document quietly.
Apparently the Purple Dragon Army had been engaged with several large sahuagin raiding parties since early this morning. The main defensive units had lost their positon a couple miles east of Marsember's city limits and only a handful of soldiers from the original defenders managed to get out alive. They have lost all contact with them, but a runner managed to reach Rizfeld Halfmoon and provide their last known position. The document urgently requests for their help in assisting the Crown of Cormyr in their time of need.
