A Gathering of Winds

General Summary

The PCs return to Winterhaven and find the town readying for siege as an army of undead approach from the north. Above the horde the skies are darkened by the shadow of a massive black dragon. Dragotha hunts the realms once more. Triple T rallies the town leaders to evacuate citizens into the Misplaced Manor and mount a defense. Raknian returns as a death knight, but is quickly dispatched. Though Ilthane attempts to battle Dragotha, the ancient wyrm fells her easily. The party, aided by Valthrun, beats Dragotha down. Then the beast reveals its true form, a dracolich. Hope channels unknown strength to destroy the horrific undead. Meanwhile, Bak discovers that he alone can activate the relic from Raknian’s trove and thus command the lesser undead to halt, though the effort leaves him utterly drained. His pains earn enough time for forces from Highmoon to route the horde.
After the town recovers, Triple T journeyed south to the Whispering Cairn. He’s managed to dig through a collapsed passage, revealing a free-standing oval of shiny black metal. Thereafter, the PCs venture to the Whispering Cairn, and through the black oval to a completely unexplored cairn—designed in ancient days by the legendary Wind Dukes of Aaqa to entomb one of their most renowned warriors, the tomb’s central chamber protects a single fragment of the fabled Rod of Seven Parts, an extremely potent magical artifact when fully assembled. The long-dead Wind Dukes lavished the tomb with complex traps. Every chamber holds a potential deathtrap or encounter with an unusual bound beast, all designed to protect a single item. Valthrun views all of the occurrences to date as ill omens. Even the surfacing of a fragment of the Rod of Seven Parts signals the coming of momentous events. The wizard of Winterhaven has expended his resources. There is only one other who can help now, his former teacher—Elminster! Events

Party meets Moreto, marquis of Ravenstone in the White Kingdom (Wight Kingdom?). He is a naturally born pale undead searching for the ancient homeland of his people.
