Dragonborn
Born of dragonkind, as their name proclaims, the dragonborn walk proudly through a world that largely greets them with fearful incomprehension. Created and shaped by Bahamut to counter Tiamat in the Dragonfall War, around -29500 DR, the first dragonborn hatched from dragon eggs as a unique race, combining some of the best attributes of dragons and humanoids. Looking much like dragons standing erect in humanoid form, though lacking wings or a tail, early generations of dragonborn had scales of vibrant hues matching the colours of their dragon kin but, over hundreds of generations, a more uniform range of hues has evolved. While the blood of a particular type of dragon may run strong through some dragonborn clans that have remained isolated from breeding with others, boasting scales that closely match those of their dragon ancestor, the small, fine scales of most present-day dragonborn are usually brass or bronze in colour, with scarlet, rust, gold or copper-green overtones.
Physically, dragonborn are tall and robust, often standing close to 6½ feet tall and weighing 300 pounds or more, with strong, talon-like claws of three fingers and a thumb on each hand, and similar shaped but flatter feet.
A continual drive for self-improvement reflects the self-sufficiency of the race as a whole. Dragonborn value skill and excellence in all endeavours, despising failure and pushing themselves to extreme efforts. A dragonborn holds mastery of a particular skill as a lifetime goal, and members of other races who share the same commitment will find it easy to earn the respect of a dragonborn.
Though all dragonborn strive to be self-sufficient, they recognize that the greatest potential is found in the cohesiveness of the clan, and a clan will exhaust all possibilities within its own capabilities, then attempt from other clans, before seeking aid from any other sources.
The majority of dragonborn are faithful servants to true dragons, but respect for and utter devotion to their clan is above all else, even the gods. Every dragonborn’s conduct reflects on his or her clan, and bringing dishonour to the clan can result in expulsion and exile - a fate considered more punishing than death.
