John grew up in a family of traders and decided to plump for candlemaking to keep him out of trouble. Learned quickly from age 15 and acquired good skills in a range of tools. Took over his uncle's shop after his uncle died and spent a year building a good reputation for reliable candles at reasonable prices.
One evening a new client entered the shop and placed a pigskin bag filled with blood on the counter. He asked for 60 candles each with a measure of blood to be made within a week. John asked him why this unusual request, but got only a curt "do you want the business or not". John accepted the work but substituted the blood for food colouring he got from his cousin (a cook). He secretly followed the client out of the shop, deeply concerned about what business he was involved in, and ended up spying on a ceremony involving what looked like human sacrifice. He went to tell the local guards about it but ended up being thrown in the slammer for making up stories.

Burly. Well toned from years of toolworking in the shop. Medium height, would have been taller but diet as a child was not so good.

Hands are very rough from working with hot wax and fire.

Special abilities

Candlemaking. Smithing and Locksmithing. Can shoe a horse. Likes experimenting with explosives but not exactly proficient (yet).

Traders clothes, extensive toolkit. Always carries a range of candles and recently acquired a prototype firework and is learning how to construct these.
