THE WARDS OF WATERDEEP
The divisions which separate Waterdeep are as essential to the city as the merchant stalls and bankers. These regions are known as the wards, each named after what one can expect to find in that ward.
Castle Ward
Containing Castle Waterdeep, the wealthy and influential in the city who aren't nobility often call this ward home. Other than housing, educational and religious buildings are common here.
Dock Ward
Nearly all of the sea side business passes through the dock ward. Crowded with narrow walkways, it's a difficult location to navigate for those who aren't used to it and a convenient place to avoid the law.
Field Ward
Standing between the inner and outer walls of the city, it is the poorest within the city who call this ward home.
North Ward
Second to the castle ward in terms of wealth, this is where the majority of nobles place their families.
Sea Ward
Another place for the rich of the city to call home, this ward is one of the oldest. There are also a fair number of inns here, all which claim to be the oldest or most famous.
Southern Ward
If one has a desire for hard work, or to travel to distant lands, they'll likely be found in this ward. It's the sort of work that might not pay well, but will certainly always exist.
Trades Ward
If you're buying or selling goods within the city, you're likely doing it in the trades ward or you're hiding your business in the shadows.
City of the Dead
The only legal place to bury the dead, this wide swath of open land resembles a public park, dotted with headstones and mausoleums and statues.
Undercliff
More of an unofficial ward, this is a swath of land filled mostly by farmers that were legally brought into Waterdeep when city barracks were moved.
