Gargauth

Gargauth was once an archfiend and ruler of Avernus, but was supplanted by a pit fiend named Bel. Unhappy with his demotion, the devil found a way to reach the Material Plane, where he found and killed the demon prince Astaroth. Taking the demon's name and its followers, Gargauth became a being of incredible and terrible power, rising to the status of a demigod. He decided to team up with the Dead Three gods, along with Talona and Loviatar to prepare his own invasion of the Nine Hells. However, the invasion failed, and Asmodeus had Gargauth banished from the Nine Hells. Gargauth was last seen in the eleventh century DR, when he joined up with Dead Three cultists to wreak havoc in Silverymoon. Through the joined efforts of Khelben the Blackstaff and Elminster the Wise, however, Gargauth was defeated.
Gargauth communicates telepathically with his followers through one or several magical shields called the Shield(s) of the Hidden Lord, and still enjoys a following of Astarothian cultists who believe him to be their dead demon lord.
