Session 6: Baldur's Gate Noir Report

General Summary

Finally arriving at the Elfsong Tavern, the party found the entire clientele in quiet contemplation of the tavern’s namesake; a ghostly wail that sung of Elturel, naming the city’s history as a shining symbol of good and prosperity; the Hellriders’ assault on Avernus; the days of darkness when a vampire and their undead machinations took control of the city, and its subsequent rescue by the coming of The Companion - a contemplative song that, according to the tavern’s patrons, was wholly different from the song that was usually sung. After having Varron disappear at the beginning of the evening, the party decided to stick together and bunk up in two separate rooms after bandaging their wounds and filling their bellies with ale and good food. The next day, they would follow up with Flame Zodge and inquire about a number of murders that had taken place.
After waking up to an unusually rowdy tavern in the morning (brought about by the noise of a number of Fist soldiers who were treated to a kingly breakfast by their commander, Blaze Beldroth), the adventurers made their way to the Seatower of Balduran, the headquarters of the Flaming Fist. After traversing the castle and following Edward, their contact, they waited outside Flame Zodge’s office as he concluded a meeting with one of the higher-ups, who Patience recognized as Blaze Liara Portyr, who she had had dealings with before. Zodge turned towards the party, and told them about a number of murders that had occurred in Baldur's Gate over the course of the last two tendays. They were asked to investigate as the Flaming Fist did not have the necessary resources available, occupying themselves with the refugee situation in the Outer City, as well as experiencing strong divisions amongst themselves with the death of their leader and the following race for succession. However, the party casually mentioned that there were plans to assassinate Duke Portyr during his speech, and Zodge immediately commanded them to make their way to The Wide in order to prevent that event as he mustered a squad of soldiers to come to their aid.
