Sorcerous Sundries

An unassuming shop front in Heapside hides a wealth of arcane treasures - or so the proprietor would have you believe. More often than not, promises of the magical effects provided by the items on the shelves are greatly exaggerated, inflated to the point of being too good to be true. The one time that a valuable magic item can indeed be found here, its price is more than likely to reflect that fact - notwithstanding the eavesdropping of The Guild rumored to go with every big purchase, new customers are quickly relieved of their treasures.

Purpose / Function

Not many buildings in Heapside feature shop fronts, and those that do are often targeted by The Guild. It should come as no surprise to anyone, then, that Sorcerous Sundries is rumored to be run, or at least closely watched by members of Baldur's Gate's secretive band of robbers and thugs. Newly arrived adventurers to Baldur's Gate who are looking to spend their coin on magical wares will find few other places to do so in the Lower City, but buying from the Blackhand comes at a risk - the most highly prized arcane items have a habit of returning to the store a few weeks after purchase.

Architecture

A stout two-story stone building laden with cabinets and countertops, Sorcerous Sundries doesn't immediately stand out among the residential area in Heapside. Only a wrought-iron sign that swings above the door serves as any indication that this otherwise unassuming abode houses a magic shop. Once inside, the air is thick with cheap perfume and cheaper incense, as if to give off a luxurious impression. The walls inside are lines with shelves displaying mundane and uncommon magical wares: rings, amulets, wands, and staves. The countertop displays are filled with magical oddities - enchanted eyeballs, lucky bones and unlucky dice.
