Echo

Echo

Born to Dove, a seamstress of fine clothing for the Whitburn's, and Scribble, a scribe for the Whitburn's slate quarry, duplicating documents for high profile money transactions.   Echo grew up in a moderately sized guest house on the Whitburn estate within the Citadel Streets District. Every morning Echo could hear the clinging of sword on shield as the knights of the city watch train.   One morning at the ripe young age of 6 Echo found a means to get on top of the wall surrounding the estate that oversaw the knights training grounds. From that day forward with a slice of a stump (Wooden shield) in one hand and a wooden "sword" in the other, Echo trained like this every day for years. Mimicking every motion, every parry, every maneuver.   Able to hear the voices of the knights, Echo picked up on many military-esque terms and phrases as well as the aggressive nature that higherup spoke to their subordinates. This caused... issues... in every day life for Echo.   Following most morning "practices" Echo would escort their mother to "The Wide" in search of beautiful and rare material for her to make fine clothing out of.   Echo had just turned 12, practically coming of age, but still, this day started like any other: "practice", mad dash back to the house to get changed into presentable attire and then off to the market with Mother. Upon entering the bustling market, sounds everywhere, trades, transactions, bartering, Dove turned to Echo and made sure he was listening and taking in as much as he could.   A small hut off the beaten path caught Echo's eye, and he tugged on Dove's sleeve to see if he could run off to have fun. Dove, waved Echo off , and away he darted. Echo had never seen this small hut before, but the strong scent of burning incense creeped from around the edges enticing him to enter. Pulling the curtain aside, Echo saw a small plaque hanging that said " Dunamancy's Web, Teller of all that has been , could be and can't be. " Echo had heard of such "Fortune Tellers" sneaking up once in a blue moon in "The Wide", but never thought he would see one close up. Echo entered the hut and sat down. There was a small clear crystal orb on the table that caught his attention, swirls of smoke in it....no around it, Echo couldn't tell. As his mind tried to comprehend this mystical item a voice filled the tent " Welcome youngling, I see this is the line in which we meet, many interesting things could be waiting in your future. Young Knight, adventurer, slave, or even death. All could be true, none could be true, but all of them start here." Echo's eye's widened as he vaguely took in the words. The voice coming from an apparition like figure sitting across the table. He ask what the creature was, who it was and why does it speak like it knows him.   The entity said only one more line before vanishing forever. " Place your hand upon the ball, it will give you powers beyond your wildest dreams, or leave and do whatever Idgaf" It vanished, no motions no wind, no sound just gone. Echo was left in the room alone with nothing but the orb in front of him, it drew him in, seconds, minutes, hours, days passed as he looked into the sphere, seeing everything that will come living a life time out the good and the bad flashing past him as he was suddenly jolted back to the current by a hand on his shoulder, Dove had shown up, and as nonchalantly as a passing breeze looked down at Echo and said " Done, Here, " , " You better not have spent money in this place!" , In the tone of a noble speaking to their child wanting to buy a toy from a commoner store.   This was the first time Echo tasted Dunamancy, but was far from the last.
