Laeral Silverhand
Open Lord of Waterdeep Laeral Silverhand (a.k.a. Witch-Queen)
Laeral Silverhand is one of the Seven Sisters of Magic, the Chosen of Mystra, and the Open Lord of Waterdeep. Considered to be one of the most powerful figures in the Sword Coast alongside Yorric, Manshoon, and Larloch. Under her guidance, many dark creatures and evil plots have broken and failed. She is also known for being one of the heads of the Lord's Alliance.
Physical Description
Special abilities
As part of her status as a Chosen of Mystra, Laeral was especially gifted in creating magic items. Along with that, she could determine a magic item's abilities with a glance and cause them to go haywire with a touch. However, she mostly stopped creating magic items after her brief stunt with madness and rehabilitation.
As a centuries-old wizard, Laeral is an especially powerful wizard, her magic only enhanced by the boons and gifts given to her by Mystra. Like all the Chosen of Mystra, her abilities were much reduced by the death of her goddess. However, her learned magic remained intact, along with the Silver Fire she was given by Mystra.
The Silver Fire allowed her to cover herself in the pure power of Magic itself, to be used for attacks, defense or simply to heal herself.
Specialized Equipment
She is known for wearing a Robe of the Archmagi.

Personal history
After their mother died, Laeral, Dove, and Storm were sent to live with the archmage Elminster until they came of age. While her two sisters left, Laeral decided to stay with him as an apprentice. When she finished her studies, she left to join the Harpers.
Laeral ended up leaving the Harpers after a short time and in 806 DR was a self-stylized queen, ruling the kingdom of Stornanter from Port Llast. Many sages thought that she named herself after the Witch-Queen, not realizing that they were the same person.
Barely ten years into her reign, Laeral's court mage was assassinated in a conspiracy involving other nobles. Realizing too late she was in love with him, she quit her throne and spent the next twenty-five years wandering the land. During this period of time, she ended up battling the legendary Kraken Slarkrethel who was forced to flee but lost her magical throne in the process.
Laeral's activities during this time drew the attention of her sister Sylune, who also desired to rule this region, and the two were drawn into a spell battle in the Year of the Hunted Elk, 841 DR. Having grown up separately, neither recognized the other and so nearly destroyed each other. However before the two could land the finishing blows Mystra interveined, explaining their heritage and offering both the mantle of Chosen. They accepted and journeyed together for a time, learning under Azuth.
Under an assumed name, Laeral eventually established herself as a hard-drinking and fearless adventurer, coming to lead the adventuring party known as the Nine. In the Year of the Wandering Maiden, 1337 DR, Laeral and the Nine came to discover an ancient Netherese artifact known as the Crown of Horns. Whatever their true plan for the artifact was is unknown, as once Laeral put it on the artifact it reacted badly to her Spellfire, causing her to descend into a madness that shattered the Nine.
Twenty years later in the Year of the Prince 1357 DR, Khelban Arunsun traveled to the destroyed Stronghold of the Nine and rescued Laeral from her madness. Afterwards Laeral went to Waterdeep alongside Khelban, beginning a romantic relationship with the wizard. The strange circumstances surrounding Laeral and Khelban led many to believe that Laeral was magically enslaved by Khelban, although many of these rumours would quickly dissapate.
In the Year of the Lightning Storms 1372 DR, Laeral got pregnant with her son Krehlan Arunsun, whom she concieved with Khelban Arunsun shortly before his death.
In the Year of the Rune Lords Triumphant 1487 DR, Laeral, her sister Alustriel, her foster father Elminster and the Srinshee battled the legendary lich Larloch in the ancient elven city of Myth Drannor. While the battle cost the life of the Srinshee and Alustriel, and destroyed Myth Drannor, they were able to foil Larloch's plans to ascend to be the new god of magic. While she lost the goddess that gave her the Chosen Status, she managed to keep that title.
With the destruction of Myth Drannor and the death of both the goddess Mystra and the god Azuth, the stability of the Sword Coast was thrown into question. Along with this, all the rampant destruction caused by the Spellplague caused Laeral to be concerned about the general public turning against magic users, pursecuting and wiping them out. To prevent this she returned to Waterdeep, gaining the support of the Masked Lords of Waterdeep to become the Open Lord.
