The Dwarfs of Regin Hacot

In the ancient days, the grandeur of Regin Hacot, the Dwarven capital city, was renowned throughout the lands. Nestled deep beneath the Plains in central Alaron, this sprawling underground metropolis served as a hub of trade and prosperity for the Dwarves. Led by the brave and respected Dwarven warrior Lars, Regin Hacot forged strong alliances and engaged in flourishing commerce with both Dwarves from the mainland and the human civilizations, including the great nations of Pembroke and Kythyss.   The Dwarves of Regin Hacot built an intricate network of trade roads and tunnels that extended for miles throughout Alaron, connecting their city to various outposts across the island. These routes facilitated the transportation of goods and resources, with the primary focus being the mining of Silverite—a precious alloy akin to Mithril found in abundance within their great mine. The Dwarves traded this valuable Silverite with local kingdoms in exchange for fine leather goods, timber, and other resources, fostering prosperous relationships with their neighbors.   One of the most legendary aspects of Regin Hacot was its exceptional craftsmanship, particularly in the realm of smithing. The Dwarven smiths of Regin Hacot were revered and renowned for their expertise, rivaling even the most skilled gnome silversmiths in service of the great metallic dragons. Their weapons, armor, and intricate silverwork were highly sought after, further enhancing the city's reputation as a hub of trade and craftsmanship.   The military might of Regin Hacot was widely respected throughout the Moonshae Isles. Their armies consisted of highly disciplined and skilled soldiers, regarded as some of the finest in the region. The legions of Regin Hacot stood as a formidable force, unmatched by any other standing army. Even Pembroke, renowned for its military strength and home to the Baron's Silver Serpents, would never dare to attack the Dwarven city due to the respect they held for the prowess of the Dwarven military.   However, tragedy befell Regin Hacot and its leader Lars, forever altering the city's fate and the perception of the Lars family within Dwarven society. During a cataclysmic event, the details of which have been lost to legend and time, Lars was deemed to have acted against the Dwarven code of honor. He made the difficult decision to retreat and evacuate his people rather than face certain death in battle. This act, coupled with the incident where Lars threw his ancestral Dwarven hammer at an undead beholder but it did not return to his hand, was seen as a mark of dishonor in the eyes of his fellow Dwarves.   As a result, Lars was banished from the land of the Dwarfs and stripped of his noble lineage, forever tarnishing the name of Lars and his family. The once-proud rulers of Regin Hacot, now known only as Lars, Son of Lars, were cursed in Dwarven circles, their history overshadowed by the disgraceful act of their forefather.   To this day, the true location of the ancient Dwarven capital, Regin Hacot, remains a mystery. The tales and legends that surround its downfall and the subsequent fate of Lars and his descendants are shrouded in myth and uncertainty. Even the remaining members of the Lars family, who have long lost the knowledge of their true history, continue to bear the burden of the curse placed upon their name.
