Humaira "Truce" al-Saleh

Humaira "Truce" al-Saleh

Personal history

Humaira was found by her (human) parents, Saleh and Kamila, when she was only a baby. They named her Humaira because of her bright red skin.   She had been left by the side of a river in a basket, and her parents regarded her appearance as a blessing and a good omen. They had been childless most of their lives, which was difficult for them as priests of Lathandar, a god whose serious followers tend to have large families. They believed that Humaira was the child they could not have, and that her strange appearance (both the way she looked and how she came to them) was a sign that Lathandar was asking them to minister to the odd and downtrodden in the Forgotten Realms.   With young Humaira in tow, they began travelling to small towns up and down the Sword Coast, helping the poor in any way their talents would allow. They focused their efforts on people who were different or strange, in honor of their new tiefling daughter.   A few years went by, and soon, Kamila was pregnant, as the couple had dreamed of for so long. She gave birth to twin boys, Tabassum and Taimur. Humaira was 4 years old. As the boys grew, they followed their big sister everywhere.   One day, when Humaira was about 8 years old, she and her brothers were playing hide and seek in the woods outside the town where their parents were ministering. Humaira search and searched, but she couldn't find her brothers anywhere, and she started to get worried. She went deeper and deeper into the woods and soon realized she was lost. Then, as it began to get dark, she noticed a small, devil-like creature staring at her from a tree branch.   "Hello," said the creature. Humaira realized that she understood what it was saying, even though she had never heard the language it spoke before. "Hi..." she hesitantly replied. "We'll have to work on your Infernal," said the little devil. "I'm here to help you." "You...are? Who are you? What's your name?" "I'm just some imp doing her job, kid. Let's get you home." The imp flew over to Humaira's shoulder and turned into a weasel. "You can call me whatever you like," she said. "Umm..." said Humaira, following the weasel's tiny pointing finger. "My parents said they found me hidden under a willow tree by the riverbank, like it was protecting me. from the river. So, if you're really here to protect me, maybe I can call you Willow?" "Hmph," said the imp. "Sounds a little too human. You've been alone with these people too long." "Well, I like it."   The pair traipsed out of the woods, where Humaira's parents and brothers were calling for her. From then on, Humaira and Willow were inseparable, though no one but Humaira knew that Willow was actually an imp and not an adorable little weasel.   When Humaira was 16, she and her family went to Waterdeep to go to the Spires of the Morning so that Humaira could take her oath as a priest of Lathandar. When they got to the church, Prior Athosar, the cleric assisting the family, saw that Humaira was a tiefling and gave the family a sneer. "Perhaps she'd be better suited as a cleric of Asmodeus, don't you think?" Humaira, hurt and offended, ran out of the room. Her mother followed her, and her father and brothers stayed behind, vowing to have Athosar disrobed for saying such things.   Though Athosar was reprimanded for his comment, he was not removed from his position, souring Humaira on the Dawnbringers. She insisted to her parents that she couldn't bear to go back, and said that she would find another way to serve the Morninglord.   The family returned to their wandering life, but Humaira never settled back into it. Over a few years, she continued to distance herself further from the faith of her parents, and life grew strained for Humaira. Although she and her parents had no ill will toward each other, it became difficult for them to live together. Eventually, Humaira realized that she had to go out on her own to find her purpose.   Her parents and brothers were reluctant to let her go, but they knew that Humaira needed to discover who she was before she could settle into a life she loved. They gave her what she needed to get out into the world, and Humaira said a tearful goodbye to all of them.   She set out to Waterdeep, and took the name Truce. She wanted to connect more to her tiefling heritage, and take a name that really meant something to her, as tieflings often do. She picked "Truce," because she wanted to find a way to strike a balance between her family and her upbringing and who she really was.   She went to Waterdeep and was hired by Gundrin Rockseeker to drive some materials from Waterdeep to the town of Phandalin, and her adventure began.   Though she tried her hand at the roguish arts, the life of a cleric still called to her, though she had no idea which god to serve. Eventually, after leaving an offering at the shrine of Tymora in Phandalin, she prayed for Tymora's favor during an hour of need and received it.   Truce took a vow as a cleric of Tymora, and began to discover her true purpose and self.

A bumbling lil tiefling who just loves her parents, her brothers, and Tymora. Constantly arguing with the imp that's followed her since childhood.
