Calimshan

Calimshan is a southern country that borders the western ocean. Due to this, they are direct competitors in trade with Waterdeep and partake in a large amount of coastal trade. They are a wealthy country that takes great pride in their rich culture.
Due to their poor soil, they are reliant on Cormyr for a good portion of their produce. The land they are in is very dry, with plains of grass that stretch for miles. There are not many forests in Calimshan due to their extensive logging and mining so the terrain is almost completely plains.
Due to this, Calimshan is currently in conflict with the Elves of Tethyr to the north. Even though the elves refused to cooperate with Calimshan in selling land, they have proceeded with their logging operations and created tensions between the two factions. This has led to countless bloodshed, yet the logging and mining ventures continue. In particular the humans want access to the Tethyr side of the mountain range separating the two.
This mountain range is called the Firemantle Mountains. These mountains are not considerably tall and contain lush forests along their slopes, yet the truly valuable aspect to Calimshan is the unusually large amounts of ores and precious stones found deep in their roots. One ore in particular, Ignus Ore, in incredibly valued across the continent but is incredibly hard to get due to the war on the border of these mountains. This ore though will always remain as hot as it was when it was forged and will glow with the same heat. 
Calimshan's economy is based mostly in their intricate and highly skilled craft of gold. They create jewelry, furniture, crowns for royalty, dinnerware, and other assorted items. These items are highly sought after, for Calimshan's Gold Crafters were all highly trained and guarded their gold molding methods.
These crafters would use Arcane Fire magic to assist them in their craft, for while Calimshan was one of the countries to limit Arcane magic after the Spellplague, they allow those with the proper training to specialize in fire magic. This is in part due to its part in the process of gold crafting and in reference to the nickname of the land, "Land of Fire".
The government in Calimshan was ruled by an Empress, known as the Empress of Fire. The theme of fire is deeply ingrained in Calimshan's culture and any ceremony or event typically features features of fire. There is a traditional dance type called Fire Dancing, and dancers will wear burning anklets and bracelets or utilize objects that are on fire, and it is very popular in Calimshan.
Calimshan has a deep and rich culture, which in turn causes them to look down on Northern countries, considering their methods to be uncivilized. This has caused citizens on North Western countries to consider Calishites haughty and rude. An insult "Calimite" surfaced and the people of Calimshan take deep offense to being referred to as such.

The Empress of Fire resides in the capital city of Avilun, a beautiful city with spires of gold and sandstone buildings. She sits in a throne made of gold and is revered throughout the country. The citizens say it is the Empress' blessing that keeps the lands warm and the weather enjoyable. They credit her with never having to experience cold and bitter winters and look down at those that live in such regions.
