Lake of Steam

The Lake of Steam is a popular destination for tourists and a common area for wealthy nobles to purchase vacation homes. The land as a whole is also referred to as The Land of Steam and the citizens here maintain a neutral ground on all outside affairs. Due to their neutral approach, The Land of Steam has been used by many as a sanctuary to escape prosecution and war. During the Cormyrean Crusades many citizens fled to The Land of Steam, and occasionally you would see Radiant Shield and Dragon Knights intermingling in the Hot Springs. All are welcome to visit the Lake of Steam as long as they follow these basic rules.
  • There is to be no discrimination between individuals
  • There is to be no organized churches established
  • There is to be no political discourse, even between inhabitants of warring nations
  • Peace and Tranquility must be maintained, while in the Land of Steam we are all equals
Pilgrimages for those looking to heal themselves, both physically and spiritually, were common. It is believed that these waters have a healing property and that those who visit will always undertake a journey of self discovery.   This water in this land was unusually warm, always a comfortable temperature and in the early mornings steam can be seen rising off the water's surface. This is due to high volcanic activity in the region; there is a large volcano near the center of the lake and trips here are common for tourists to undertake. There are many tour boats and guides that will take passengers there for a fee. Outside of the central volcano, there are many thermal vents that warm the water and many natural hot springs are found throughout the entirety of the Land of Steam.   Due to this, towns can always be found built either at the lakes borders or along these natural hot springs, opening up baths and saunas for tourists to visit. Larger resorts can be found where wealthy nobles visit to be pampered, or the common person can visit smaller villages where the local economy is almost entirely based on tourism.   The actual citizens of the Land of Steam are known for being warm and welcoming to all who visit, and a large majority work in some sort of tourist industry.
In the Land of Steam it is common to find bathhouses in every city. This is one of the main tourism points of the Lake of Steam many foreigners will travel the continent just to experience them.    Outside of bathhouses though as a visitor you can get a massage, visit a spa, visit a spiritual healer, or go on one of the many tours of the local volcanic vents of even the Volcanic Island itself.
