Luiren

Luiren is a nation that mainly consists of halflings. It is a nation that primarily focuses on agriculture and consists mainly of small villages that make up farming communities. These villages are typically entirely self sufficient but do typically trade for foreign and luxury goods.   Before 1300 DR, Luiren had coastal cities that maintained large and bustling ports, including their capital city of Farburg. This city was located on the bay of Luiren and had a democratically elected council that ran the country. Their society was wealthy and peaceful, keeping out of most wars and ending conflicts quickly. Their biggest concern was their warmongering neighbor of Dambrath.   Their official military was called the Marchwardens, a military organization consisting entirely of halflings. While they mostly were used to deal with wandering beasts and monsters that terrorized the villages of Luiren, they were also used to keep a strong border between Luiren and Dambrath.   When the Spellplague of 1300 DR occurred it sent the country into chaos. Half of the land that made up Luiren was swallowed by the rising ocean, including all of their major cities. With the council gone and most of the military force wiped out, the country was in shambles.   It has slowly recovered though. The small villages left in the northern part of the country have all been working together to rebuild their peaceful and prosperous nation. So far Luiren has seen only peace from other nations and has even received assistance from Cormyr in rebuilding their homes. They have created a new capital called Harshire, and while it is still a small town it continues to grow with the support of the Radiant Shield.
Luiren is known for its strong and full-bodied ale; it contains numerous breweries and taverns all featuring this particularly popular ale. Before the Spellplague, ale was Luiren's largest export. Now with their ports having been swallowed by the sea, Luiren ale is only available at the taverns located within the country's borders.
There are many travelers who travel to Luiren just for the ale and to be able to tour one of their many breweries. The halflings of Luiren refuse to release their exact brewing process, but they will still happily give visitors tours of the breweries themselves.
