Ruins of Tashalar

Tashalar was a small, exotic country located on a strip of coast along the southern edge of the Shining Sea. It was just east of Chult, and west of the magic realm of Halruaa. It was famous for beautiful weather, beautiful people, excellent crossbows, and some of the best fruit in Faerun. Tashalar was made up almost entirely of dense jungle, with consistently high temperatures and humidity year round. This led to some cities being built higher up on mountain tops to allow for a breeze and for the buildings to be open so not to trap any humidity or warm air. Cities in Tashalar were typically a series of golden ziggurats that looked like a towering mountains from a distance. Each city within Tashalar distrusted one another, keeping mainly to themselves. This isolationist behavior was less likely caused by hatred than a lack of interaction, as traversing the dense territory between the cities was no easy feat.     Tashalar used to consist of various different races that traded amongst each other, while these races typically only lived with those alike to them, it was not unheard of to host travelers or to help out the nearby cities. The humans had the largest amount of land in Tashalar, with most of their land being bustling port cities that were filled with trade of exotic goods. It was due to their prosperous port cities that led to their downfall though.   When the spellplague occurred, Tashalar was ravaged by massive earthquakes. These earthquakes broke apart the land, destroying almost all of the coast and only leaving isolated islands of dense jungle. The cities that survived were those buried deepest in the jungle among the highest of mountain tops. The civilizations that typically resided in these deep jungles were more isolationist and aggressive than their coastal counter parts, this led to a loss of connection with Tashalar after the spellplague.   Travel in Kashalar is dangerous for with the jungle growing unchecked there are all manner of dangerous beasts prevalent within the jungle depths. Many adventurers are still enticed into exploring these wild lands due to the lost civilizations buried within. There are lots of ruins of gilded cities that range from the highest mountain peaks, to the dense valleys, to even below the ocean waters.

There have been rumors spread that the Yuan-Ti hold a massive golden city deep within the jungles of Tashalar. One of the few cities to have survived the spell plague. The Yuan-Ti are a race of serpentfolk who strongly resembled snakes. They are known to surpass humans with their intelligence and all Yuan-Ti can innately cast a variety of spells.
The appearance of Yuan-Ti varied greatly and this is what determined their caste.
  • Purebloods: They appear mostly human in body shape with snake like features, their skin, hair, and eyes all resembled that of a snake still. They are considered to be the lowest caste in their society.
  • Halfbloods: They are still humanoid in shape, with legs and arms, but they have the head of a snake. They are the middle caste of their society.
  • Abominations: The were the most snake like in features, they had a snake tail in place of legs with the head of a snake. They are the highest caste in their society and respected greatly by other Yuan-Ti.
