The North

The North is the furthest northwestern region on Faerun. It is a land of untamed wilderness, harsh winters, and the home to many hardy folk and fearsome beasts. This region is unforgiving and cold, yet many people have made their home within this snow filled land.
The residents of this land have to survive months of heavy snowfall, infertile and hard ground, dangerous wild animals such as grizzly bears, and onslaught from desperate bandits. The only protection the numerous small villages have is to employ the services of the Wardens of the North. These wardens are used throughout many northern countries to maintain peace. They can even occasionally be spotted in the more southern regions of Faerun, though typically they only leave the north for the most dangerous of criminals or pressing conflicts.
Besides numerous small villages scattered throughout the land, The North is also home to one major city, the city of Whitefalls, the City of Snow.
Even though this city sees a large variety of travelers and connect directly to the Golden Way, southern nations tend to refer to this region as the "Savage North". Unlike other harsh climates in Northern regions, The North maintains roads that connect their settlements. Though sometimes these roads are no more than a marked path through the mountains.
The northern part of this region is even more unforgiving and wild than the south. This region contains The Spine of the World, a mountain range that shields The North from the unforgiving Great Glacier above. These mountains are called the Spine of the World due to their white peaks that contrast the sunless gray sky, It makes it appear as if these mountains are holding up the sky itself.
This mountain range proved to be one of the most difficult to scale in all of Faerun, containing the highest peaks and the harshest weather. There have only been a handful of adventurers that have succeeded in scaling these formidable formations.
While The North may be an unforgiving land, the ones who call it home treasure their way of life. It has led them to becoming resilient and stalwart. The ones who can survive here regard themselves as being able to survive anywhere.

The Wardens of the North constructed the Iron Keep Fortress deep within the Spine of the World. It is a massive and cold structure that only the wardens use to house the most dangerous criminals of Faerun. It has a reputation for being impenetrable, it is said that when someone enters these walls they are swallowed by the mountain itself, never to see the light of day again,

The most devout sector of the Wardens of the North is referred to as the Order of the Silent, due to their cold and reclusive nature. It is said that when somebody joins the Order of the Silent they take an oath to never speak again as a symbol of leaving their old life behind.
