The Vast

The Vast is a large region of land in the Northern part of Faerun. It is a land filled with Boreal forests and staggeringly tall mountain ranges. It is a sparsely inhabited land with no official government or major cities. There are occasionally small villages or settlements founded in the valleys, but even in these villages life in these lands is harsh and unforgiving.
While the summers here are mild and pleasant, they are typically accompanied by heavy rain. These gentle summers are short lived, and the rest of the year is engulfed in a harsh winter. These winters reach temperatures that freeze the rivers and drop multitudes of snow onto the land below. Due to this climate, crops are unable to grow, and the local residents survive off of hunting and gathering their food.
Due to the harsh nature of the climate and the steep mountain peaks, travel through here is rare. Besides the weather, there are not many wildlife threats to travelers, as the local fauna is typically skittish and passive. There also aren't any bandits or danger from other humanoids within this region. The only danger one truly faces here is the harsh environment, though that doesn't mean it is to be taken lightly. A single night during the winter in The Vast is enough to kill someone if they don't have the proper equipment and knowledge of how to survive here.
There are also no roads or travel marks within The Vast, and few have been able to map out the area. It is an area where only experienced travelers can find their way through the miles of snow covered forests and the sharp mountains.
The further north one travels in the vast the colder it gets, until eventually there is nothing but ice, leading to The Great Glacier.

The Vast is filled with staggering mountain ranges that make travel through this region almost impossible. These mountain ranges maintain snow all year round on their peaks.
