Vilhon Reach

Vilhon Reach is a peaceful country nestled in the interior of Faerun and bordering the Sea of Fallen Stars. They have a collection of mountains, woodlands, and plains. The country is mainly made up of towns, cities, and smaller villages across the countryside with a sprinkling of farms.
The capital city in Vilhon Reach is the city of Cannemore, a city founded by Lucian Cannemore. Lucian Cannemore was a citizen of Vilhon Reach when it was nothing more than scatterings of isolated villages. When the Spellplague occurred in 1300 DR Vilhon Reach was torn apart, villages destroyed by earthquakes and the plaguelands started to sweep in from the east. Lucian Cannemore stepped up to unite the land and he took in refugees from Shaar. The people were starving and battered but Lucian took it upon himself to teach the people how to farm, how to build houses, and slowly the country began to rebuild and be self sufficient. When the people went without food, so did he. He was revered as a hero and the first village he helped build grew and was eventually named Cannemore. Upon officially receiving a name the people decided to officially instill Lucian as the leader and created the Republic of Vilhon Reach. The newly formed government quickly put forth a referendum to ban magic, the citizens voted near unanimously and magic was outlawed. This created the need for a formal government and the Eye of Cannemore was created. The Eye was responsible for enforcing the ban on magic and word of them quickly spread across the Lands of Intrigue. Eventually the other countries came to Vilhon Reach seeking aid of the Eye of Cannemore. They quickly spread as the main enforcement of a magic ban that spanned across all of the mainland countries in south west Faerun.
The city of Cannemore quickly grew in size and became a center of rationality. Scholars from all the world traveled to Cannemore and the University of Cannemore was created. It was the largest and highest regarded university, a true marvel to behold. An entire section of the city was dedicated to this university and it had the largest library on all of Faerun. Only Vilhon Reach citizens were allowed to freely enter the grounds, an outsider had to require a permit if they wanted access to the university. While most students are Vilhon Reach residents they do offer this opportunity to those outside their borders. For a non citizen to attend this university they had to qualify for a specialized scholarship, typically showing great merit in their perspective field.
Outside of the capital Vilhon Reach was filled with towns that rested in gentle hills or pressed up against mountains. These towns were microcosms of the City of Cannemore, they featured the same advanced development of the capital and the citizens lived relatively luxurious lives. All of the areas in Cannemore were connected by brick laid roads, a modern marvel of engineering for Faerun. This made horse drawn carriages commonplace and allowed ease of travel for all of the citizens of Vilhon reach.
Foreigners were allowed to travel in Vilhon Reach and were encouraged to share their knowledge with the citizens. The only exception to this were magic users. While magic users were allowed to travel through Vilhon Reach they were not allowed to mention anything relating to their practice of the arcane arts and are forbidden from displaying symbols of magic or carrying items infused with magical potential.
Besides just the Eye enforcing the laws of no magic most citizens are also wary of magic users. The citizens of Vilhon Reach pride themselves in their ability to create a complex and beautiful society without the help of magic, the believe their efforts prove a world without magic would be better for all.

Vilhon Reach had countless universities in their borders and scholars from other nations universities would often travel far just to experience them. 
Vilhon Reach took great pride in educating all of their citizens, it is expected that most of the citizens will attend primary school, secondary school, and then a university specializing in a field of their choice.
