The hawk-headed, or hieracosphinx, is evil and rapacious. They are found in hilly regions. They prey on warm blooded creatures by preference, humans being high on the list of their favourite meals. They attack with forepaws and beak. Like other types of their race, they highly value treasure. It is not unknown for hieracosphinxes to serve as steeds for certain evil and powerful creatures.
