HotDK 36: “Rezmir, At Long Last”

2019-12-13

You wake from a much-needed long rest still in the guest room in the Cloud Giant’s castle and still a flight to gods knows where.   Still disguised as Cult members wearing Dragonclaw masks and with Langdarosa’s sword hidden in the bag of holding you begin searching for a mess hall to get something to eat and hopefully be able to overhear any plans or information about where the castle is going.   Exiting the guest room you make your way to the farthest end of the corridor and enter a room with walls covered in hundreds of horse skulls and full of books where you see another Red Wizard of Thay (you recognize him by his clothing and the tattoos on his bald pate). Hey admonishes you for failing to knock and insists you tell Rezmir that she must stop interrupting him by sending people to ask for updates if she expects him to complete his construction of the ritual. You successfully bluff your way out by apologizing and leaving.   Debating for a few moments if it would better to take out the wizard now or seek more information, you continue down a side hallway where you find two locked doors. Brehana manages to pick the one on the west side and you enter.   And there she is. The Black Half-Dragon you have been pursuing since Greenest all these months. Rezmir! The Black Wyrmspeaker of the Cult of the Dragon. She at first lashes out in anger thinking you to be underlings who dared enter her room unannounced, but you soon make it clear who you really are – the Iron Company finally come to call. While formidable in many ways, you each unleash your special talents in combat and magic dispatching Rezmir and her two guard drakes. You watch as Malice deals a final, critical blow with a mighty Guiding Bolt in vengeance for his adopted hometown of Greenest and Rezmir not only expires but her body turns to dust. In the aftermath of defeating Rezmir, Rargir accidentally discovers she had a Rug of Smothering which grapples him as he walks over it, but you all quickly destroy it and free him. What Rezmir leaves behind is what becomes of immediate interest. A key ring that has keys to both this room and the one across the hall, and to a chest on the desk, not to mention a very imposing looking Great Sword which Pubert takes an interest too. (Hazirawn)   The chest turns out to be empty, but Malice is able to ascertain though magical means that it was attuned to Rezmir in a way that upon her death its contents were teleported away. The sword though… that’s another thing altogether as it turns out to be not just magical, but sentient and can speak. Oh, and evil as well, and it has taken a particular interest in being wielded by Pubert, the champion who clearly is more worthy of her abilities than her last owner was.
