HotDK 5: "The Escape"
2018-06-01
Under cover of darkness, Arynor, Malice, and Rargir steal and prepare a cart (pulled by two horses) and four riding horses and begin to inact their rescue and escape plan. Arynor proceeds to stealth his way around the camp first freeing the civilian prisoners before making his way to Aluric and Pubert where he finds them tied up with the missing monk, Leosin Erlanthar. Despite his objections that it's too soon and that there is more information to be gained here, they take Leosin with them as his weakened state makes it impossible for him to object (especially why Pubert gives him a 'gentle' whack to the back of the head).
All goes well, until, as they are about to ride out the alarm is sounded that the prisoners have escaped. At that point the team gets differing results in their mounts' reactions to being spurred to into a full gallop and Arynor is almost left behind except for a daring effort by Pubert to double back and inspire the half-elf's mount with a hearty slap on the flank.
Pelted by sling stones from Kobolds stationed in the entry way guard tower, the heroes manage to slip away as the camp arouses from its slumber too late.
Recalling the rearguard post they encountered on their way south, the group takes a more circuitous route, arriving back in Greenest just shy of Noon where they are greeted by Castelan Escobert, the Dwarven Captain of the Guard and a squad of guards. They find Greenest more fortified that it was before and beginning to recover from the Cult's raid.
XP = 150 (Total XP should now be 900 for 3rd Level)
GM Notes
The prisoner escape does not have the effect the PCs think. Instead of following them, the camp is ordered to bug out - to gather up all the treasure hoard they can and immediately begin hauling it up the coast toward Baldur's Gate.
