Obarath

Calamity of Obsidian and Flame

"To say that it is made of fire is to name a bonfire a candle.
It is heat incarnate, melting steel as if it was wax.
If you know it is coming for you then gathering water is never going to be enough.
You need the protection of some seriously powerful mages to be able to even get close enough to irritate it.
I recommend burning down the area ahead of its approach and then fighting it on the ashes.
Or get as many Dragon-Blooded as you can find to throw at it.
Yes, I am serious in both regards."
- General Ophelia Anvilsoul of Candlehearth, City of Ambition

History

Born as the avatar of the elemental god of fire, Obarath was created on the Elemental Prison of Fire. The immense heat of that world was focused on a single point, melting the air itself into a miniscule drop of elementally infused metal. Over millenia, this process would slowly create a being made of the black material, given a heart of pure fire. Influenced by the Ancient Dragon, Kornath of the First Flame, the being was made to resemble a set of human armor. Konrath wanted this entirely new entity to seem familiar to those who viewed it, so as to terrify them further when it it behaved in antithesis to its form. Obarath was the second of the Calamities to appear in The Material during The Age of Calamity.

Appearance

In its base form, Obarath looks like an enormous suit of pitch-black armor, in-laid with intricate lines glowing like lava. A raging inferno burns within the plates, like that of a humanoid fire elemental. But this is but one of the creatures forms. At any moment, Obarath can re-arrange it's plates to take the form of any other living creature, attuning not only to its looks but also its properties and abilities. Deep inside the burning inferno rests a heart made of pure elmental fire, about the size of a fist.

Powers

Obarath radiates a heat so intense that most flammable materials catch on fire just by being within a few meters of it. In all of its forms it can direct the fire within it into searing blasts of energy and explosions. Its obsidian armor is extremely durable and conventional attacks won't even leave a scratch. Whenever Obarath assumes a new form, it attains any abilities and powers connected to its new form. As such, it can only change itself into an already existing creature. Whatever powers it inherits this way will be adapted to a burning or flaming nature.
