Old Nanna Red-Eye

"Listen to your mother young one, or Old Nanna Red-Eye is gonna crawl through your window and steal you toes."
- One of many warnings, from one of many uncles, to one of many children.   Once upon a time there was a a woman who was bored. She may have worked in the fields, or served a strict master, or tended a business that rarely saw any visitors. Some say that great tragedy had befallen her before her fateful day, others state that it was a day just like any other. But every scholar agrees that the woman decided that she was done, that this was enough. She was not going to take it anymore. Many have had that thought before, some may even have acted upon it. All of them lacked true conviction. The woman did not.   In one moment she was herself and in the next she was something else, something disconnected from the world she had denounced. She was delighted as she found herself free from all that had been. She was scared as she now had no connections. For better and for worse, she thought she was alone. Reaching out, she found that she was not. In that space outside of space, she found a being so unfathomably larger than herself. It shared and she learned the truth of it, and the world that had been her home. She learned about joy and fear, about elves and dragons, about imagination. The woman could never do what the being had done, but she found that she too wanted to affect the reality she had left behind. But as she held no powers, she wondered how she may do that. All she had was the ability to move.   So she became a story.
The story of a silhuette at the edge of the firelight.
Of nails scraping against your wall.
Of eyes looking in through the window.
Of someone on the other side of your bed, waiting for you to turn around.   Yet also of someone who will answer if you know how to call
Of a witch who is always willing to trade.
Of a woman that have outsmarted Gods and Calamities alike.
Of your only friend when all you see is darkness.   And as such, Old Nanna Red-Eye was and always had been.
