Trade

The prices listed in the PHB and DMG are the average market prices for said items. Price change a fluctuate based on the town/city industry and rarity of that time.   Example sell gold ore in a gold mining town is going to get you the lowest price since the town is saturated in it. However if you take it to a town that main industry is smelting you going to get a higher then average market price and if the place has low supply of that ore and is in high demand then it will pay even more.   Small town merchant most likely wont have a arcane mechanika or magical items. Since even a common magical item is rare these would be highly prized items and wont give them up for at least double the price.
