Yao guai are a species of mutated bears that inhabit the Commonwealth, the Island and Nuka-World in 2287.
Background Named by descendants of those held in Chinese internment camps before the Great War, yao guai are mutated American black bears and one of the more vicious creatures of the wasteland, sporting razor sharp claws and teeth, and a nasty temperament.
Characteristics Yao guai are large, mutated ursines that are descended from the bears that lived across America before the Great War. They are able to reproduce, as evidenced by the presence of cubs. Wild yao guai will attack nearly any other animals or people they encounter, including deathclaws. Despite this, yao guai exhibit a gentle, familial bond toward one another when found together and can even be domesticated.
Gameplay attributes They seem to appear as often during the daytime as they do during the night. This is a primary difference between the Commonwealth yao guai compared to the Capital Wasteland variants which are more nocturnal in nature.
These creatures also have the ability to cause, unlike their Capital Wasteland counterparts, the staggering effect on every one of their attacks, even if the player character is quick enough to block them. For this reason, melee fighting against yao guai might be difficult, especially with slow weapons or if fighting against a group. Attacks must be properly timed, otherwise, the player character might get stuck in the stagger effect, giving yao guai enough time to strike once again.
Unlike many other creatures, yao guai do not take increased damage from being shot in the head.

SPECIAL ABILITIES
IMMUNE TO RADIATION: The yao guai reduces all Radiation damage suffered to 0 and cannot suffer any damage or effects from radiation
BIG: The yao guai is bigger than most characters, towering over them. The creature receives an additional +1 health point per Level, but its Defense is reduced by 1, to a minimum of 1. Further, it only suffers a Critical Hit if an attack inflicts 7+ damage (after damage resistance) in a single hit, rather than the normal 5+.
AGGRESSIVE: The yao guai is quick to action when it senses prey. When the yao guai enters a scene, immediately generate 1 Action Point. If the yao guai is an ally, then this goes into the group pool. If it is an enemy, it goes into the GM’s pool.
