Overview
His Majesty's 1st Royal Hussars are a Guards Regiment of the Royal Army, along with being one of the few units to cross from the Old World with the original expedition. Much of the Hussar's founding stock is of French descent, and its first several commanders made an intentional effort to instill a certain esprit-de-corp. The Regiment has modeled itself directly off the Regiments of Napoleonic France, including the ornate dress uniforms and aggressive combat doctrine. The Regiment has seen heavy fighting since the landing of the expedition, often raiding out in front of the main Army to harass an enemy force or blunt an incoming thrust.
Equipment
Hussars are equipped as light horse, with a saber and set of two pistols, which they use interchangabley depending on the situation. Hussars ride fast and light horses, and wear no armor save a standard Morion hedlmet and padded jacket to retain their speed. This renders them exceptionally maneuvarable, but also potentially fragile should they be caught unprepared by the enemy.
Engagements
The 1st Hussars began their service by undertaking a daring raid on a Goblin advance collumn during the defence of Baódheas in AL1. In this raid, the commander of the Regiment, a man of Native American descent, managed to set several trolls on fire, causing havoc in the camp and inflicting heavy casualties for no friendly casualties. After the battle ended, the Hussars were instrumental in hunting down and exterminating any survivors.
At the Battle of Sealbri in AL3, the Hussars successfully destroyed the Greenskin light cavalry and used one squadron, along with the Cuirassiers, to reliev the beleagured left flank while the second squadron provided screening for the Heavy Machine Guns and /k/ommandos to lay down fire into the Greenskin rear.
At the battle of Lakefort in AL4, the Hussars rode with the Cuirassiers to relieve the besieged militia and Honor Guard troops holding out in the Lakefort against a Goblin raid.
In AL5, the Hussars were instrumental in gaining control of the region surrounding Nenagh by hunting down and exterminating Goblin encampents, along with the Rangers and Cuirassiers.
In late AL5, the Hussars and Cuirassiers were broken down into mixed troops of 100 men each to patrol the Northern frontier after it was discovered that large scale Goblin raids were ongoing in the region. The cavalry have proved effective at this task, but were rendered tied down to the area until a more permenant solution could be devised.
