Necromancy
In it's natural state, Necromancy is non-harvestable nor directly measurable using traditional instruments unlike most other schools of magic, the power of animation and life existing within the very same, unable to manifest itself outside of a vessels such as that with mortals and monsters. It is the theoretical force that binds and drives all beings, with creatures of greater strength and prominence possessing notably more "life force" than smaller or weaker counterparts. For most of presiding House's histories, they relied on directly locating, feeding, and hunting the monstrosities of Evening, whom bore unusually high amounts of Necromatic energies within them, whom were then killed and harvested for said energy to be applied elsewhere. The collection process involves the use of specialized equipment that can isolate, harness, and manipulate the internal constitution of a beast, able to siphon and draw out the very "soul" of weakened or dead organisms that cannot bring to bear the mental fortitude to resist the reaping. The process may take several nights to fully deplete the deposit, with larger, more prominent things of life demanding a considerable number of harvesting Orbs and patience. While the procedure for extracting the essence of existence from the dead is directly safe, it bears indirect consequences for disturbing and drinking the waters of the heavens, metaphorically speaking. Like how blood is to a shark, other abominations or magic-sensitive individuals will be attracted to the source, compelled to take the consolidated Orb of Necromatic life for their own gain. Additionally, the long deceased will rise, inhabiting incorporeal or corporeal forms to seek out those responsible, sensing the disturbance caused by the use of an Orb; or even worse, the creature being harvested will awaken once more and thirst for revenge. Because of the unusual composition of Necromatic particulate, it is considered a "megalithic" particulate, meaning that it is compromised of several bonds unique to this school of magic, even going so far as to incorporate other schools in its make. It only occurs within creatures with innate potential to control the arcane forces such as that with magic, forming these bonds within said creatures overtime as they grow to understand and incorporate their proficiency in their everyday routines and tactics, further reinforcing the Necromatic bonds inside. The Houses presiding can locate the pronounced presence of powerful beings with tools and sensors, dispatching their formidable standing paramilitary to detain and destroy the beast so that they may harvest its valuable juices. More recently however, partly due to Astralshaper's demands and the increasing market for Necromatic mechanisms, the Houses had developed a methodology known as "repenting". This entails the extraction of Necromatic influences from willing, living hosts that both weaken the innate prowess within so they do not threaten the society at large with their potential terror, and to give the Houses a much broader pool of resources to work with. Because of its nature, Necromancy does not need to be refined, but must still be compressed, with Grade 1 being weaponized, Grade 2 being industrial, and Grade 3 being commercial.
In Meridian technology, Necromancy once suffered from limited application as was also the case for their Enchantment brethren, utilized in applications that involved the raising of dead as any traditional necromancer would do, hosting the early standing force of the empire that contributed much to its defense. In modern times, also like Enchantment, Necromatic particulate can be purposed for medicinal use, able to vitalize and even revive severely injured or dead citizens; a foundation in marvels such as the newly invented Soul Lure. But more practically, Necromancy is a fundamental school in recent Archival technologies, developing sensors and receptors that gate logic inputs and emulate the sense of sapience in machinery. Additionally, they have also taken a liking to creating artificial organic races to do the Meridian's undesirable tasks, such as field mining.
