Warding/Warp Scrambling
As discovered by Great House Monolith, the greatest adversary to the Meridian is none other than the Evening Star. Obvious enough, but they found that its gaze bombards massive doses of Enchantment particulate across the entire wasteland during evening. Not only does this turn any normal life mad upon exposure by "warping" the mind, but also turns the very land against the living, forging magicked dead, constructs, and creatures that prowl the wastes. These New Races are only capable of meaningful thought thanks to the dense Enchantment fields, and die off slowly as their supply is severed throughout a rotation. Enchantment particulate spreads across the wasteland like a blanket of fog, and the older Ward technology exists to counteract its influence by denying it outright. Older than the Meridian itself though retrofitted to be specialized against Enchantment, Wards cauterize the relevant particulate in a large radius, crystallizing them into harvest-able deposits and rendering them harmless. They are not perfect however, and are highly sensitive to other magics that can easily render them inoperable for many nights as they need to be repaired due to foreign contaminants. While still utilized to this day, newer Warp Scramblers were designed in the same vein of Wards, only difference is that they project a focused, directional beam to cauterize Enchantment as opposed to the passive denial such as that in Wards.
