Mermaids of Merriport

The Mermaids of Merriport are well known for miles around. Living on the rocks near the lighthouse, singing to brave sailors and trying to get ships to come close so they can play a few games. They insist they’re nothing like those sirens, who look very similar and are also well known by the lighthouse keepers. They’re nice and just want to play with people, so they say. Sirens drown people for no reason at all, and would never sing mermaid songs. They eat fish and other meat and just find boats really interesting, that's why they call them over.
They’ll be the first to tell you that the lighthouse keepers are all old and have terrible eyesight. Not only that, but they confuse the poor sweet mermaids for sirens all the time and try to chase them away or stop new friends from visiting with their terrible lights.
The Mermaids of Merriport are, by their own say so, lovely and helpful and should you visit the own you should make time just to see them up close.
