Stone Island

Stone Island is a minor province of Inavola located east of the country's mainland. It's known for having a high population of drow, duergar, svirfneblin, and goblinoids due to its direct connection to the Underdark. The province is home to five major cities, of which Iquenwald is the largest, serving as Stone Island's capitol. The government is headed by Lythrana Jhalorel, a drow woman who serves as the governor of Iquenwald, and four other councilors that govern the other cities.

Locations and Travel

In addition to Iquenwald, Stone Island's cities include Mt. Gilmadrith, Mt. Laduguer, Mt. Callarduran, and Mt. Maglubiyet. Each city shares its name with the mountain that the settlers build into and around. The city borders are relatively even, with each hold containing several smaller towns and villages. Horseback and carriages are the most common forms of travel between cities, with many gathering into caravans for safety on the long roads.   The carriages travel at an average pace of about 2-3 miles per hour (movement speed of 30 feet) and charge each passenger 3 cp for every mile traveled (though most of the drivers will round up to the nearest silver piece). The horses and carriage drivers must rest after 8 hours of travel. The table below details the travel time and cost between each major city, taking rests into account.

Iquenwald

This central city is the capitol of Stone Island, where a myriad of people from the Underdark can be found. Refer to Iquenwald's main page for more information on the city's population and demographics.

Mt. Gilmadrith

This mountain marks the northwestern city of Stone island, primarily populated by drow. It covers an area of approximately 132 acres, with a total population of about eight-thousand people. The city is governed by a court of drow women, with councilor Miz'dara Hlatyl at the head.   Some of the younger and more progressive drow have tried to speak up and bring to light the outdated and unnecessary bias instated by a traditionally matriarchal form of government, but most tend to find a sense of comfort and familiarity from the status quo.

Mt. Laduguer

This mountain marks the southwestern city of Stone island, primarily populated by duergar. It covers an area of approximately 124 acres, with a total population of about seven-and-a-half-thousand people. The city is ruled by a power-hungry council member, a duergar man named Adram Hollowgore.   There is currently a call for unionization amongst the artisan guilds of Laduguer, but Adram has been accused of illicitly silencing these protests.

Mt. Callarduran

This mountain marks the northeastern city of Stone island, primarily populated by svirfneblin. It covers an area of approximately 128 acres, with a total population of about eight-thousand people. Governance of the city is shared between elvish councilor Mesarye Lazulibringer and her court of respected elders and aristocrats.   Masarye and her court have made great efforts to remove power from the city's merchant families, placing a large target on her back.

Mt. Maglubiyet

This mountain marks the southeastern city of Stone island, primarily populated by goblinoids. It covers an area of approximately 140 acres, with a total population of eight-and-a-half-thousand people. The city is ruled by a corrupt council member, a hobgoblin man named Gronder, though a consortium of black market merchants and gangs wield significant power.   So long as their dues are paid to Gronder, these groups can bend the law to their whim.

The Underpass

This series of underground tunnels and caverns delve into the upper-layers of the Underdark, serving as a major trade hub and an expedient method of travel between cities.
