Wild Fever

Based on research performed by Arzok the Hollow of the Arcana Guild, this infection is classifiable as a magical disease. Worse yet, it’s a wild magic disease, making its identification and prevention much more difficult. Researchers Egni Nettle Tooth and Jorokk the Flame theorize that this disease, and many other effects of Wild Magic, have evolved from a side-effect of 969's Celestial Cascade; specifically, it seems as though the inner planes are overlapping, causing a myriad of strange phenomenon in the Material Plane.

Symptoms

The most well-known identifier of this disease is a discoloration of the infected individual's blood. A creature with Wild Fever's blood will take on a pale, almost-white color with highlights and tinges of a sickly green that seems to have a bioluminescent effect. In extreme cases, the blood will thicken to a point of appearing clotted. Researchers suspect that this is not only likely to cause other harmful effects within the infected creature's body, but also a sign of the disease worsening over time.

Effects

This disease seems to cause different symptoms depending on the organism the disease resides within. Below are some recorded examples:
  • Ettercaps become aggressive, attacking when unprovoked. They also seem to put them in a constant state of heat to the point where their mating and egg-laying habits completely deviate from the norm.
  • A spider injected with samples of the disease died within minutes, violently shaking its whole body and prying at its eyes before passing.
  • Humanoid (Orc) cells also have a unique reaction. When observing the disease’s interaction with cells from Arzok’s throat, the tissue began to swell and turn into an off-white color.

Contagion

Thankfully, it seems like the disease cannot spread via skin-contact alone. It only seems to have an effect when ingested or inhaled, thus attaching itself to the body’s soft tissue and internal organs. Researchers recommend that any infected persons quarantine themselves as soon as possible, covering their mouths with a face-cloth when they're in public. Other methods of spreading the disease, such as sexual contact and blood contamination, are currently untested and unconfirmed.

Cure

Thus far, no cure for Wild Fever exists. Arzok tried using various kinds of spells and magic items to produce an unexpected effect, but to no avail. Everything about the infected tissue seemed to react to physical and magical stimuli within reasonable expectation, but nothing kills it without causing harm to the surrounding tissue. The researchers of The Flaming Nettle are hard at work attempting to find out more about this disease and how to rectify it.
