(Campaign5) Hunt for Hellstrom
General Summary
The fifth campaign played in Location Farrah">Farrah. Takes place chronologically before the forth, Campaign4 Hunt for the Vetala">Hunt for the Vetala. Set in 489 AQ and played by Jasin Natael (DT).
The campaign begins with Jasin Natael, a travelling bard and mercenary, entering Location Vaclav">Vanimo. He is approached by NPC Amelia Lightspring">Amelia Lightspring, who hires him to help track down Samudai Hellstrom. Lightspring explains to Jasin that Hellstrom has in his possession a vial that could cause devastation across Farrah (it can spread the Condition Zombie plague">Zombie Plague).
NPC Amelia Lightspring">Lightspring tells Jasin she works for the Harpers, an organisation dedicated to the protection of people from evil. They have been unable to find Hellstrom. The Harpers are aware of a map that can locate any person, the Blood Map. When they tried to bid for it a rich man in Vaclav, Lamar Auralias, outbid them. Auralias is having a party in a months time, with many important people attending. Jasin will need to get an invitation, enter the party and steal the map.
Jasin travels to Vaclav. There he asks around town until he finds a halfing that has an invitation, and pickpockets it. Jasin purchases a mask for the masquerade party, and goes to Auralias' home. This mansion hangs from the ceiling of Vaclav. At security Jasin's precious magical dagger is found and confiscated. Jasin enters the party, weaponless, and begins to mingle. At the party are Captain Cyrus Hayden, a hero of the recent Levinas Campaign, along with his commander Paladin Maximilian Lafayette. The Leftennant-Governor Dune Voitre is also invited, as well as Lady Defarge: a wealthy heiress and cousin of the royal family.
Jasin slips out of the party and begins to search the rest of the house for the map. He finds it in the library, under a glass cabinet. When Jasin slips it out of the cabinet, a figure appears near him in the library, and asks if Jasin is stealing from him. Jasin flees this man, presumably Lamar Auralias. Jasin runs through a doorway and into an office with a panoramic view of the cavern of Vaclav and bay. Jasin shatters the glass with a spell and tries to leap out the window, but trips and ends up hanging from the edge, his feathered hat falling far below into the waters.
Auralias approaches the window and begins to mock Jasin. Jasin swings off the ledge and jumps for a nearby crane platform, grabbing on. This platform lowers him down to the docks below while Auralias watches angrily. Once on the dock Jasin swims to retrieve his hat, almost drowning in the process.
Jasin flees Vaclav and returns to Vanimo, where he reports he has the map. At Vanimo he speaks with Eton Gale, as NPC Amelia Lightspring">Lightspring has left the town on her own mission. Jasin uses the Blood Map to determine that Hellstrom is at the abandoned town of Skarlsburg. Jasin sets out there. Jasin has to battle the creatures of the forest to make his way to the cursed town. His enemies include large mosquitos that drain constitution to perilous lows. Beaten and battered, he spots the walls of Skarlsburg. There he can see soldiers patrolling, presumably Hellstrom's own men.
As he watches, a shade leaps onto the wall and kills one of the soldiers. In moments that solider rises as another shade and the two of them jump down into the town. Jasin decides he cannot fight such an enemy in his state, simply hopes Hellstrom survives the battle, climbs and tree and goes to sleep.
In the morning Jasin uses the Blood Map to track Hellstrom again. He is fleeing to the north. Jasin follows Hellstrom, pushing himself in forced marches toward the northern border of the country. With limited food, Jasin begins to starve. He comes across a village, sneaks around to a butcher and steals a whole dead pig, which takes him both arms to carry. Exhausted, still not caught up with Hellstrom, Jasin breaks into a barnhouse and goes to sleep.
Jasin is woken by screams of townfolk. He emerges from the barn to see an army of Gith entering the town, killing indiscriminately. Jasin, still carrying his pig, sees the Gith storming houses and killing helpless townsfolk and children. Their leader has a staff that fires beams that petrify anything it hits. Jasin makes the decision to not try to save any of the townsfolk. He makes a desperate sprint across the main road, ahead of the Gith army, carrying his pig. Jasin runs into the forest leaving the villagers to the slaughter.
Jasin, still starving, sets up a camp fire to eat his pig. As he does so he activates a shrieker fungus which summons swarms of spiders. These attack Jasin and the pig. Facing poison and death, Jasin is forced to abandon his prized pig and, once again, flee.
After some more travel Jasin finally catches up with Hellstrom. Hellstrom is being hunted by the shades, and has lost all of his guards. It is only him and his daughter still alive, fleeing in their small cart. Jasin offers to take them to the safety of the Harpers in return for the vial of zombie plague, and Hellstrom agrees. The trio, hungry, injured, hunted, begin to travel back to Vanimo. They are swiftly attacked by a Shade Lord, which Hellstrom and Jasin together are just able to overcome.
They return to Vanimo and Jasin hands Hellstrom over to the Harpers. Jasin takes his payment, hands over the Blood Map, and goes on his way.
