(NPC) Luc Lacey
Luc Lacey (471 AQ - 519 AQ) was a Farran Paladin of Heironeous. Lacey grew up in a religious family, and trained hard in the hopes of becoming a member of the Holy Order of Heironeous. At 18 Lacey was rejected by the Order, he gathered a band of his friends and decided to battle the darkness of Skarlsburg himself.
Lacey and his band defended the small farming hamlet of Hof from a group of flying drakbeasts. They held the undead monstrosities at bay long enough for a force from the Midnight Tower to arrive and cleanse the town. Seeing his devotion to the cause the Commander of the Midnight Tower, Percy Grath, allowed Lacey and his friends to take their oaths to the Holy Order in the small church at Hof.
Lacey spent his life working hard at the Midnight Tower. At 32 he was made Commander of the Midnight Tower following the death of his mentor Percy Grath. Once in command Lacey launched incursions into Skarlsburg, joining forces with Fort Portal to destroy a large horde threatening towns all along the Blue Kimber. Lacey believed that Skarlsburg needed to be cleansed entirely of the undead, that the horde would never stop if the Order did not take aggressive action.
Lacey made efforts to reopen the river passage along the Black Kimber, sending forces to Greenglade to try to clear the cranes on the river of the predatory undead that stalk them. Although he slew many undead, Lacey suffered losses to his Order. The Commanders of the other towers disagreed with Lacey's reckless approach. They wrote to Lord Lancaster and demanded Lacey's removal in 511 AQ.
Lacey wandered the world for a time. He would travel the lands helping those in need and protecting the lives and lands of citizens of Farrah. In these travels Lacey met Portia De Maar, a young seer. She told Lacey of a grim future where the filth of Skarlsburg spills across the lands. Portia said she could prevent this fate, but needed Lacey's help.
Portia warned Lacey that this assistance would cost him his life. If he went with her he would surrender the chance of a long life and peaceful death. Lacey did not hesitate in swearing to help Portia on her mission.
Together they travelled in disguise to Fort Portal, then on to Endurance. The pair made their way through the Forest to Jalahan's lair. There, Portia begun a ritual to slow the spread of the undead. Lacey defended her from waves of undead. They were aided in their battle by the Second Strings and an elf from Correlon.
Lacey sacrificed himself to allow Portia to escape. He went to his grave hoping his life had made a difference.
