Jane Fonley
Jane Fonley (45 BQ - 167 AQ) was a poet, builder, Princess of her own Princedom, and member of The Companions.
Fonley lived and fought in the Dragon Wars alongside Aeneas the Dragonslayer. As ruler of her Princedom in south easetern Farrah, Fonley was charged with defending her citizens. Facing the wrath of the Dragons and with little other option, Fonley agreed to join the Dragonslayer and support the creation of the state of Farrah. Fonley was renowned for her bravery and generosity. She travelled the lands and wherever she and The Companions fought the forces of the dragons would retreat and fail. The Dragonslayer’s forces were few, however, and the Dragons and their armies of Kobolds and dragon worshipping humans were powerful.
Fonley saw that the war could not be won through conventional means, and was a strong advocate for an assault on Mt Quarinth to slay Unos.
During the battle on the way up to the summit Fonley was knocked off a cliff by a great silver dragon. Together they fell into a deep ravine where they fought desperately until Fonley slew the beast. Fonley had to climb back up the sheer cliff edge to try to rejoin her army.
When Fonley reached the top of the mountain the battle was over. Unos had been put to sleep and the dragons were falling under the sleeping spell. Tragically, the Dragonslayer had died in the fighting.
Fonley spoke to Forticus, the other surviving member of the Companions, and the Dragonslayer’s son Elmerend. On the side of the mountain Fonley declared Elmerend should become King in his father’s place. Her support, and her refusal to stake her own claim to the throne, helped swiftly unite Farrah behind Elmerend.
She took the Limo Amulet from the Dragonslayer’s body and returned it to Lake Limo, where it now waits a new master.
Fonley spent the rest of her days working to help rebuild Farrah. She had a falling out with Forticus over his lack of engagement in the world and the two stopped communicating. Shortly after this Forticus vanished from public life and the world began to move on. Fonley initially joined in King Elmerend's Dragon Hunts, but over time grew to view the killing of the sleep creatures as dishonourable and convinced the King to end the practise.
Jane Fonley spent her final years in the city named for her family, surrounded by her loved ones and finally, at peace.
Fonley's line is the only one to survive to the present date other than that of the Dragonslayer himself.
In an alternate timeline in 167 AQ Jane Fonley assisted the Queen's Blade to hunt down and stop Forticus from meddling with time.
